WOW, that is a top shelf set-up Trylobyte! Very organized and clean, great job!. My work area looks like a scud missle hit it compared to that, hehe. Again, great set-up! Don

I'll bet Trilobite even puts the seat up on the toilet! Donrob and I could be tool pals. I don't even dare to put my set up on the net, Donrob's is way more organized than mine. I even lose custom work right in front of me. I am not going to let my wife see this thread, I could be in big trouble. Maybe I could get more done if I organized a little. Maybe I might be able to have friends come over. Maybe I might be able to have a dinner get together. Well, I would have to get the tools off the table, and floor, and clean up the chairs. I would have to get the sheet iron off the stove, no more dopping in the kitchen. I would have to move the milboard off the kitchen counter, no more casting silver and gold. Forget dinner, we will go to Waffle House. In all seriousness, no one tell my wife my shop should look like that, I might have to go back to cooking and stuff. That is one well organized, thought through work station that looks like it produces results. Gads, I might have to shave regularily. Well done, very well done.

Some think it's sad when one's life revolves around making big rocks into small ones...
I call it therapy. If not for the rocks, I could have one of those really nasty habits...
But in the end, I feel like a king with his treasure every time I pull a load out the last rinse and throw it out on the towel.
Glad to see I'm not alone...

Well said. It is hard to express to another what it feels like to behold natures treasures like we do. You have a great shop. I like the table set up. Everything is organized. Way cool. I am kinda afraid Donrob's photo was a little staged. I am cleaning up my set up before my wife views that photo of yours. I do all my cutting and grinding and tumbling and soldering and casting in the kitchen. She is sleeping right now but she has been getting on my case at the shop, and here at the main shop. Perhaps after christmas rush. I can still use that as an excuse.

I'm so jealous now... I want a dedicated workplace too! As it is, I've stored various bits in various crannies about the house. But even then, I have to agree with Trylobyte...it IS like uncovering treasure. I chuckle and coo and run my fingers through the piles of stones (I've got the bug so bad I even do this with a new batch of rough). It's so completely satisfying on some base level, I find it hard to describe.

Greetings All, Hey Don, where DID you get that picture of my house? Well, maybe not that bad, but the wife and kid are out-of-town for a couple of weeks, and by the time they get back it might be... Very nice set up there Trylobyte, I am impressed. Me, I've just got three Lortones on the floor of my storage room, which is otherwise packed with camping gear and stuff left over from my wifes graduate research and an old unplugged refrigerator that I keep my rocks in. But after seeing what a real rock tumbling shop is supposed to look like I'll have to get onto better organizing mine...someday. WilliamC

Lest the uninitiated think that they can merely dabble in the stones, I offer proof of (at least my own) terminal illness: More than 8 tons of beautiful river rock hand-collected along many miles of rivers in the great Northwest. Sadly, I've got a couple more tons on the side of the house waiting for their debut. Talk about a kid in a candy store! Mother Nature takes a little longer, but she's got a few million years of spare time, and infinite patience. There's a fine line between pleasure and pain. Is this a disease...or a cure? [glow=red,2,300]BE AFRAID...BE VERY AFRAID[/glow]

Trylobite, Beautiful. I had always envisioned my home looking like that, however I would have to clear out the weeds, Brazillian peppers and there is even a toilet left from the rednecks next door. They had a party the other day and a redneck got real drunk and used it. We watched him fall over. We had a break in, and the felons stole everything I wanted to throw away but couldn't. They missed all the good stuff even though it was in plain sight. That use of stones is beautiful. I also like the polished stones in the setup in the first batch of photos. It gives me some good ideas. We bought a fix up down here, and it looked like the photo of Don's shop, inside and out. It is different today, but we are tired. That is a beautiful photo, and I miss the Northwest.

Beautiful pic, great use of rocks. Classy and natural, plus no grass cutting. I like it! ;D . My shop isn't really that bad, I swiped the pic from an explosion site on the net and then pasted a small pic of one of my tumblers to it. Just in case anyone believed that was really my work area, I thought I better come clean. I do work in a messy space in the garage though, and my wife banned me from posting a pic of it until it has been cleaned up and better organized. Wives can be funny about such things, oh well, happy tumbling all, Don

I am glad to see someone with good rocks for landscaping. The local landscapers sometimes don't even bother to wash the rock before they leave the job. I am quite happy to help out,for a small fee of course, a few rocks ;D It will take me awhile to get enough rock collected and tumbled to get around the house may even edge out a few of my wifes flowers ooops.

Donwrob - I wouldnt DARE post pics of my set up. What a total tip I am in at the moment. If any health and safety inspectors saw my stuff on a web site they would track me down and lock me away. Andy

I know the quandry. The longer we are at stones, the more subconcious our latent desire to fool anthropologists with our set ups. I am glad I am not alone. It all started small, neat, and organized. Merry Christmas to all of us. Imagine the shock when our spouses, parents, acquaintenances, fill our stocking with rocks and we have an epiphany!

Wait a minute....
Are you saying that my neurosis will fade with time? This is great news! My family thinks I'm terminal, but they're willing to humor me as long as I occasionally souvenir them some nice stones.
But... (says my alter-self in a kinda squeeky voice)
I still feel semi-sane. Why do people keep criticizing me for my habits? I just don't know how much longer I can keep this appearance. It's all so confusing. Rocks, grit...now how long have they been in there?...Nope...they're not quite done...YES THEY ARE...NO THEY AREN'T...YES THEY ARE...
I think my meds are a little off today...

heh neatnes is a state of insanity in my book =) I find that its easier to locate stuff when its messy...because then i don't have to dig behind twenty jars to get what I want, and then to only realise i made a mess and go clean it up again...
*Time saving tips =)
