I promised some photos of my first wraps...and here they are. I got some brass wire to practice with and used two of my reasonably even sized tumbles. I haven't had a chance to get some tool dip for my pliers, and I'm not liking the tape route, so there are some tool marks, unfortunately. Wrap #1 - 21 ga dead soft square brass wire. Bindings are 22 ga half hard half-round wire. Front: Back: Wrap #2 - 22 ga dead soft square brass wire. Bindings are 22 ga half hard half-round wire. Front: Back: My fingers are sore from pushing wire around, but it's a really fun activity to do while watching TV. I definitely need to practice more before I start with silver wire.

You have done a fantastic job!! I really like them all. You will learn the pressure needed on you tools to do what you want without leaving little marks. I gave up on tape also. Using deadsoft wire is a big help. You look like your about ready for gold & silver!! Keep up the great work. Tonja

I agree - your backs already look better than mine have ever! I don't know about brass, but I found that silver doesn't mark as easily as the practice wire I started with, if that helps encourage you on to bigger and better things!

You might check your pliers and make sure they're smooth. A light filing of any rough edges will help against marring the wire. On the jewelry forum I read, most people prefer nylon jawed pliers to the liquid coating. They have as much trouble with the coating as they do tape. I've found a couple of places with brass wire www.landofodds.com/store/wire.htmRio Grande also has it.

LoooooOOOOOooove the shine! the wraps are great too - I find I use my fingers more than the pliers
Try using a screwdriver to do the bail, (wrap it around the barrel - makes them even) specially when you have many wires cuz most of the round nose pliers are tapered and you get them uneven
As for tool marks, try less pressure, no need to squeeze so hard, it's hard to remember that - my teeth are always clenched when I wrap (I end up with a sore jaw when I'm done!)

I've found a couple of places with brass wire www.landofodds.com/store/wire.htmRio Grande also has it. I found a beading store near me that also has wire wrapping classes and stopped in on Monday. I picked up a pair of nylon jawed pliers, and those are now my favorite things! I also picked up some silver...made a wrap last night that I haven't had a chance to take photos of. But, the silver is much easier to work than the brass. It definitely doesn't mar as easily.
