Hey we had a quake last night - biggest in 25 years over here.
I woke with a start in the dead of the night - underpants on I sat on the edge of the bed grasping for my baseball bat ready to kill the intruders!!!
Her indoors shouts "its the wind Mark - get back to sleep", in my sleepy head state I says - "hmmm the alarm isnt going off so theres no intruders". I learned what I would do if there was an intruder though. Im not so sure I like it - i'd probably end up in the nick. Anyways - sleep came again.
Lo and behold - the next day everyones yakking on the quake.

Quakes are really something. I have been through one. We had one in Long Island Sound, it was fairly large. It was the first earthquake I had ever experienced. They are unforgettable. Glad you be ok. They remind us of our vulnerability. Indeed it was not an intruder. Just Mother Nature rattling cages to let us know. Hopefully, damage was slight.

i saw that y'all had a quake. you get them about as often as we do here in central NY. we used to live near an Air Force Base years ago, quite near to the end of the runway, in fact. you get used to the vibrations of B-52s coming in heavy, so when the windows started rattling (again) and the bed started to dance, i just rolled over and went back to sleep. only to wake up later and read that a 5.2 had rumbled through.
we read about yours on the BBC and was glad that there were only minor injuries. i didn't realize you had them as often as you do!

Mark-
Hope there wasn't much damage over there. Earthquakes are a trip. I grew up with them on the California coast. The Northridge quake literally threw me out of bed and onto my feet. Exploding transformers and their bright blue flash at night and swimming pools with 4 foot swells in them are a surreal sight.

I'm so glad I have never been in one.. .. Glad you're ok Mark.. and quick to grab a bat! most guys I knew couldn't wake them up for nothing , If I heard a noise.. LOL..
And I agree with decone.. even tho I've never been in one.. everytime I hear of one it reminds me of how vulnerable we are as humans when it comes to mother nature.. Man I sure do worry about all you in California.. I don't know how you can live there without fear.. lol

Wow Mark, glad you are OK. How big was it? We're a little more used to them here in California but they still give you a scare no matter what. Steve

The first and only quake I've been through, I sat there thinking, "hey there's a train coming". Then went, no there are no train tracks around here. Then everything started moving... Glad you're alright

Glad you are OK! I'll take the occasional tornado any day over an earthquake!

Wow Mark, glad you are ok. I never even knew you had them there. I've never felt one myself but we do get some pretty darn good shakes and rattles here when the mines are blasting, I swear sometimes the house is going to drop around me.

Nothing like an earthquake or tornado to put your problems in true perspective.
I can't add hurricanes to the list because you have enough advanced warning to get your silly A$$ out of town !!!
Glad you guys are O.K. over there.
