Moonstones are great stones. I've tumbled a lot of that stuff and they come out nice. Never have cabbed them, but your pics make me want to go and do that. They're beautiful.

You should see them in person, this stuff is too cool! I'm thinking that cinch mounts in sterling silver would look killer.

Wow Randy. I'm so proud and impressed. This is a huge moment for me seeing these. I'm breaking out the bubbly, because The Master just cabbed my rock! Beautiful.
I'm speechless. Jo

Nice Randy. I think it's even cooler that one of our members found it and she's drinking some champagne in your honor! Steve

Those are superb! Maybe it's my monitor but it almost looks like it has a slight peachy tone in them. That stuff can be found in PA? Got to take a trip there!

Randy, look at the one I made her with the same material, it has almost a sheen like the inside of seashell or abalone? I guess it is mica chips in there. I guess that is how I would describe it??? I can't wait to try some of the other stuff she found and we found, some is very dark green, light green all different stuff. Do you have a high dome on these? Very nice work. Amber

Thanks darlin, and yep- high dome. I do a high dome on anything chatoyant or reflective (chatoyant) lol. The high dome magnifies the effect.

Beautiful! I bet the shine is there! Maybe the shine of your cabs is to blame for your color blindness? Adrian

Really nice Randy, but your stuff looks so different unwrapped I'm just not used to it I don't think it is the camera... I think it is the lack of wire! T

Now those are neat! I've never tried to cab moonstone before. I spotted some real nice flashy red feldspar on a previous Texas trip not far from Fredericksburg. Big ole crystals too. I'm gonna have to put that on my list and see if I can go pick some up to tumble and cab. After seeing your cabs, I'm thinking they might come out pretty neat....Mel

That is nice stuff isn't it. I started the piece that Bejewelme did and gave to Naturenut. We have a few more pounds so I will have to make some more once I'm done trying the other rocks that Naturenut found. Some of it does have a peachy hue but not all. Regardless it is flashy and certainly worth cabbing.

Those look great. Did you cab those from the rock you showed me yesterday?

Yep, same rock. It looks totally different when cabbed, the flash is more intense.

So glad everyone is enjoying it. The peachy hue is attributed to sunstone in the area. The sheen or chatoyancy is similar to cat's eye or tiger eye and comes from the fibrous structure reflecting light. It's like a green moonstone with a sunstone hue, with the greens ranging from blue minty green (microline amazonite mixed in) to olive. The peaches range from pink to orange. All so cool. There's also smoky quartz running through in knots and streaks in some pieces, which can make it tricky to work. There's also some bright green actinolite crystals in some.
Both Randy's and Tony and Bejewelme's (http://forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=ccabs&action=display&thread=26822) cabs are so uniquely different and incredibly wonderful. I just found it, they get all the credit for knowing what to do with it! Jo
