I have been gathering up some local petrified wood over the last few weeks. Some came from a friend's farm Also got this one from my Dad's yard. According to him I left it there about 30 someodd years ago. It's about 70 lbs. I have about enough to start a course tumble. Plus a few mini slabs that I will preform. I am going to have to cut up a little more before starting the batch. Drum still a little low. Will post pics as I go along. Bob

Awesome looking wood. Love the black and white and the red and white striped stuff! I'm so used to seeing the palm from there that I keep forgetting the other types of wood are so nice too.....Mel

That is some great looking wood. Can't wait to see it finished. What size tumbler are you putting all that in?

Beautiful pet wood, I like the red ones in the last pic. They deserve a preform for sure.

Guess I'm not the only one that wants to see that tumble when it's finished.

Hey Bob, are you sure you didn't sneak over into Texas and pick that up? ;D
Great looking stuff! You may have a problem getting the black to polish. Sometimes it does and other times it doesn't.
What part of La are you in?

Curt, I live just south of Shreveport. These pieces came from the north end of DeSoto Parish. Awful close to Texas.

Gee Bob, we're next door neighbors. From where you are south to Toledo Bend is all good hunting. I've seen logs of Palm up to 15 ft long come from La.

Nice wood, it has some great colors. Can't wait to see it tumbled. I know I have seen posts on here saying there is nothing to collect in Louisiana. Looks like you proved them wrong.

... I've seen logs of Palm up to 15 ft long ... Curt This is no justice! I made my dance of joy when I found a palm wood piece not bigger than my hand. You would had probably cicked it to uncover a bigger one ;D Adrian

Here are a couple of photos of a piece that belongs to a friend of mine, who is a dirt contractor. Course some times I am not so sure about the friend part....can't seem to talk him out of it!! it's about 3 feet long and 12 to 15 inches across on small end Bob
