On another thread I posted a picture of an attempt to heat treat a slab of Brazilian and I screwed up the process and the slab disintegrated. As it happened though, an interesting pattern developed on the fracture surfaces of the pieces. I cabbed one and I am quite pleased with the results. This one is a standard Montana oval. I seem to be addicted to cabbing Montana. Thanks for looking. Bob

Bobby: I think the addiction to Montana is a common one, especially material like you have been cabbing. Your heat treatment almost produced cornflake carnelian. At any rate, it did come out very nice. Woody

very cool, it makes the brazil look a bit like opal...
Love the montana...where do you get your montana moss agate? All of mine was collected by my grandfather, they used to live in Billings...

I can see why you like the Montana and you sure do a great job on them too. You do seem to be working from some exceptional slabs which really shows in your awesome results.....Mel

I have been collecting and cabbing stuff for many decades so I have acquired Montana from many sources such as the local pow wow, gem shows, buying collections, inheriting my dad's collection, etc. so it came from multiple sources. I'm always on the lookout for reasonably priced quality material wherever I go. I rarely (or in the case of Ebay, never) buy any material that I can't hold in front of my nose to evaluate it. This method reduces my chance of getting poor material by a significant percentage. It doesn't reduce it to zero, though. I still end up with some material that doesn't cab well. Bob
