has everyone got their wallet out yet ?? it's already started !! I can hardly wait for the next few weeks to see what "ALL" the prices will jump too ! ------------ "example " --- I went up to get some smokes and they had raised the price over $8.00 a carton -- when I asked about it ( the $.61 tax/pack raise doesn't start until April 1st--- thinking they were just starting it early )---- they told me that was just the "company" tax hike and that the per pack tax will be "EXTRA" starting april 1st -- another $6.10/ carton -------let's see --- Missouri prices were @ $30/ carton ( Illinois is already $10 higher)and by the first of the month they will have raised 50% to $45/ carton -------- soon it will be cheaper to buy the weeds coming across the border ;D this is just the first of "MANY" things that just got signed into law over the past couple weeks ------- with "MORE" to come --- just how much "spending" can you afford ?? and another -- just yesterday I received a "mailer" from the school district asking to vote in a $.01 county sales tax to help them ( supposedly so they wouldn't have to raise prop taxes , but still may )--- I thought they just received billions from the " cram thu bill " to help them out ?? anyone else "notice" anything yet ??

Smokes are still the same here, but I'm sure that won't last long.
Yup, Obama is going to "fix" things. We have millions out of work, people are cutting out everything they can to pay for necessary stuff and the answer to all these problems is to RAISE TAXES. Where in the world does this guy get off? Only 3 years and 9 more months to put up with this insanity.

I am still smoking too, although not for long!!! Smokes are $50/carton here now and April 1st they are going up $6.50 a carton. I am smoking menthol cigars, $1 a pack, and they are good!!! What kills me is that Obama is a closet smoker, come on dude, at least cut us a break!!!! He is probably getting free smokes from the tobacco companies! And I know smoking is bad, but guess what ? If I get a disease my insurance that I pay out the butt for is covering me, and my family will take care of me, because I certainly would not be entitled to any aid anyway!!! I was buying smokes from Russia, but then PA got smart to that, and went back and sent people who purchased cigs on line a bill for the missed PA tax. People were getting bills for $3,000 and if you didnt pay they were putting leins on your house!!! It is total B/S!!! If they would just let us smokers smoke a cheap smoke people would be a lot nicer, what about the drinkers!!!! Tax the crap out of them, they kill more innocent people driving anyway!!!! Messing with my smokes makes me edgy!!!!! LOL Amber

Yep... it's all Obama's fault! lol...
Quit whining...
What did you expect after 8 years of unbridled borrowing and spending? Would you rather pass off the debt to your grandkids? :nono: Someone has to pay for the mess we created ... it might as well be us. You have to pay if you want to play. Your grandparents understood this... they made plenty of sacrifices during the depression and WWII...
If you want to avoid Cig taxes... simply quit smoking or roll your own... I'll be rolling...

Cigarettes are bad for you. Time to quit.
Oh, and write your Congressman 'cuz a move is afoot to legalize and tax marijuana. That would probably pull us out of this economic mess we're in...
Time for a little HOMEGROWN industry, I say.

Dan: It is time to get over the last President...at least you still had a few dollars in your pocket at the end of the day... Obama in his first year in office if he gets his way, will spend more of your tax dollars than all the Presidents combined... you are like all the Hollywood stars that pi..ed and moaned about Bush's spending $900 billion...but now it is OK for Obama to spend $3.4 - $4.0 trillion dollars in his first year... Yep, it has been estimated that it will take 2 full generations just to pay that bill... guess what...it don't stop, there is 2011, 2012 the beat goes on...

The loose tobacco is going up like crazy too. A bag that was $6.00 is going to be over $25 a bag. I know we should quit, but why single out one vice? Why not tax the crap out of every vice, alchohol, chocolate, A Big Mac, a pizza!!!! Somehow I think eating a Big Mac could be worse than smoking.
I'm going to look into becoming a stoner!!!!! I never did drugs, but hey why not start now!!! I wonder if Pot grows in PA, or I might start smoking my basil plants!!!! LOL

BTW - the fiscal year began 5 moths ago....

The part that bothers me about these additional taxes is that Washington is busy promoting the fact that they are cutting taxes for the middle class and lower. Yes, they cut income tax. In the end, that's just going to be a whoop-de-do cut, as the additional other taxes are going to hurt.
Yes, we need to find money to pay for the mess we're in. But we don't really need to find money for the messes that are being created in Washington now. Raise the taxes if you must, but use that money raised to pay off the deficit rather than creating new - EXPENSIVE - additional programs.

Blarney -- it hasn't just been the last 8 years --- it started back in the 40's when the " uncle sam" started spending more than it got in ( both "parties" are to blame but the dems' spend it faster)-- ( the big "O" is doing as much in 2 months as all the rest of the "Pres" in history combined ) have any ever watched the "documentaries" on Africa, South America, India, etc. , on how the average person lives there? ( three generations in one house) shacks to live in & rice to eat --Europe, where you see one little pic on the wall ,with a small "static" Tv ----that is what "we" will become -- no more "rv's", boats , "extras"-- you will be lucky to afford a meal with "meat"-------- the cigarettes were just one example -- did anyone notice the school tax thing ? --- what are some others ? the energy bill ( fed excise tax)is going to double your electric rate, plus raise your natural gas bill-- force you to go solar even if you can't afford it ---and get ready for the car gas --YOU will be buying electric cars or riding alot of bicycles !! -- etc., etc., etc. -------- let me know in six months or a year how "everything" is going  ---- I may go and live in the country of "DAVE" with my laws ! :cheesy: :cheesy: where government can only spend the "donations" that it receives and can't make you pay taxes ! any one want to go with me ? --- we may have to hide on the space shuttle to get there ! ;D ;D ;D

"...but the Dems spend it faster"
Really?
Here's the numbers.... gotta love numbers...
Bush spending up to 5 times more than Clinton Reagan Revolution architect calls it 'era of obese government'
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted: August 03, 2006 1:00 am Eastern
"When we strip away defense, homeland security and entitlements and adjust for inflation, leaving only discretionary domestic spending, George W. Bush has grown the federal government at a faster pace than Lyndon Baines Johnson," Viguerie writes. "His record for profligate spending is outmatched (for the time being) only by another Big Government Republican, Richard Nixon. And when Bush's second term is over, there's every reason to expect that Bush will hold the record as the president who's grown the federal government at its fastest pace in modern times."
The numbers?
Johnson: 4.1 percent Nixon/Ford: 5 percent Carter: 1.6 percent Reagan: 1.4 percent Bush I: 3.8 percent Clinton: 2.1 percent Bush II: 4.8 percent
...and that was just his first term... who the heck do you think is gonna pay? I know... let's just ignore it.... much like the GOP ignored the betrayal by the almighty deity known as G.W. Bush.
Hmmm.... the numbers don't seem to suggest that the Dems spend more... maybe it's time to see the Wizard... follow the yellow brick road....!
Would anyone like some cheese with their Whine? lol.... If you ain't part of the solution you're part of the problem.

What world do you live in? It sure isn't the same world I do. The one I live in is that the current President has in 8 weeks spent as much as Bush did in 8 years and has a budget proposal that has even Democrats reeling. Is that what you mean by paying our way out of this? How do you think we will EVER pay our way out of this idiocy spending? Fine, let's pay for it. But to think we're going to pay our deficit plus what Luny Tunes is spending is crazy.

Well golly gee Curt... I thought you knew I lived in one of them fancy big cities... you know... the ones with all the big buildings, pretty lights and lots of cars.... you're right... it's no place like Kilgore...
...and "Looney Tunes" is doing his best to clean up the shit pile left for him... I never heard you bitchin' about Bush's crazy discretional domestic spending spree... WTF?
Whaaah!! Someone needs a pacifier....
I mean holy crap!!! Bush borrows trillions of dollars from the Chinese and Saudis... gives tax breaks to the wealthy and blows a huge wad on domestic Pork.... and now you all want to complain about footing the bill? Give me a break. I'm beginning to think you woiuyld rather your grandkids be born into indentured servitude.... that's Bush's legacy... God Bless Him!!

LOL, I always assumed you lived in fantasy world. You know NOTHING about Kilgore, which is where I don't live. And if you don't think Hussien is going to put us in indentured servitude now, much less our grandkids, then you live in more of a fantasy world than I ever dreamed.

Barney... Thank goodness we have folks like you... That will be on the hook for the next 2 generation to help us pay for Obama's debt for this year alone... Actually, it's not Obama's fault...he is still campaigning while Pelosi and Reid are running the country...oh I forgot to mention, Barney Franks and his little helpers...

Dan, I pretty much blame all politicians for the situation we're in. For years and years they've thought only of themselves and what they have to do to get re elected. Soon as we vote them in, why it's to hell with us and welcome to the feed trough to all lobbyists and special interest groups. Obama is certainly no better than the rest and probably worse as he has his own left wing agenda which he is pursuing as a priority item he puts "before" economic recovery. A whole huge pile of good economists agree he is making some pretty odd moves for someone who wants to better the country's situation. The increased taxes which will hurt every one of us and every business are designed to support his socialist agenda, not for economic recovery. Tell me, if Bush II was wrong in his huge amounts of spending, encouragement of pork barrel politics etc, how can Obama's hugely increased spending make the country in any better shape. Adding a larger wrong to a smaller wrong, sure don't make a right in my book. Obama said he was against pork but did not use the veto when he could have on this latest bill. He could've stopped it and said " Cut the pork a'holes. Then I'll sign it!" Instead he takes the chickens**t approach and says" Oh golly gee, it's all Bush's fault. What can little ole me do?" and he signs it in private and then launches into a totally hypocritical bashing of pork barrel politics. I think his choice of administrative people and his lack of sand reveal just how inexperienced he really is and I sure hope he gets better down the line because so far he ain't impressing me much!....Mel
