I am having a hard time getting a nice surface on Pyrope Garnet. It seems the stuff skins over or even undercuts as I go to 1200. I work it and work it at 1200 but it stays uneven. And its so smooth after 600 too. This is getting really frustrating.

Hey Lap, good to see you here. I can't help you with this one, but I'm sure there is someone here that can. I do know some people swear by using worn out 600 SiC belts for polishing problem stones.

Cool, Well Mr Sinkankas comes thru again. The secret? A light hand, and after 600 or 1200, sapphire powder on smooth leather, slowly. Results. Muy Perfecto
