I got my treadmill back and took it apart. I'm going to leave the motor and associated wiring hooked up the way it is, control box too. the frame will be turned on its side and cut off about half. I plan to incorporate it into the rest of the frame I will build. I think Ican use the pulley and bar for therest of the setup.I will need a longer belt. Thats it so far.1-1.jpg[/IMG] This is how it will sit on its side when done, the bar and pulley set up about 18 inches away as a separate lap unit. So far, 20 bucks spent. Hours trying to figure it out, priceless.

I bought a 14 inch cake pan 2 inches deep. I plan on gluing felt to the bottom and polishing my geode and nodule halves first. Igot to thinking I could set up possibly three different laps radiating out from both sides of the motor and swap the belt over to the one thats needed. Is this feasable? I am by no means a mechanical engineer, but I think about how to do this all day long. I also thought about a source for backed felt.If anyone knows a vending machine operator that has pool tables, try to get the old felt when they recover the tables. They throw it away.Anyhow, cake pan was 8 bucks, for a total of 28 so far.

Just a quick one, (I don't want to rain on you parade) whats the output of that motor,.... Just that all the flat laps I have seen and used have a fair amount of grunt behind them... 1/3-1 hp... Mind you the laps I use tend to have 24 to 36 in cast plates that were an inch thick
Cheers Scott

Scott, you aint rainin' on it. I couldnt tell you the output, all I know is a 250 lb person couyld stand on it and it wouldnt bog down. If this dont work, I'll try something else. Thanks, all advice is appreciated.

Hey all. By leaving everything hooked up the way it is, the option of different pulleys is out. There is only 1 inch space between the frame and motor for a narrow serpentine belt to the lap, thats why Iwould have to swap it around. I wont be able to mess with it for the next couple of weeks. THANKS.

Hey drjo, I usually work 6 days a week outside, and its been over 100 degrees here about 50 days this summer. I get home and get on here and soak up some cool air, thats why I put this project on hold. By the way, found another treadmill on craigslist for 35 bucks, pick it up this evening. Maybe a vertical lap out of it. ;D

Your 'working in it'? If you were of the chosen, you'd be paying for the privilege to basque in it Go with 2 mower decks...that will give you 5 laps and a buff!!! Yea! that's the ticket! (of course nothing much else will fit in he room ;D). We've been in the low 90's (heat index 101-110) for awhile now with thunderstorms just when you don't want them. OK, set back and chill awhile, suck up some gatoraide and build up your strength " FLATLAPALOOSA" ! Do you have a Freecycle.org set up in your city/town? It could save you even more! Still WAITING...WAITING...WAITING. Dr Joe .
