Norman Borlaug was known by many across the globe as an accomplished scientist and humanitarian who saved more than a billion lives, possibly more than any other individual in history. He is credited with starting the Green Revolution. He developed rust resistant strains of wheat which helped avert mass starvation around the world. Just thought yall might be interested.

The thing about the green revolution is that it just postponed the problem. The population explosion (possibly the result of the green revolution) has wiped out all the gains and has put us back in the problem with few new alternatives. Arable land and available water continues to decline rapidly. A recent series of articles in the National Geographic Magazine was very enlightening on this subject. The basic problem is population control. The available resources left on this planet are not infinite. But population control is a banned subject for discussion, unfortunately. Bob Bob

Actually, Norman Borlaug worked for the Eugenics movement. For those not familiar with that term; Eugenics is the study of, or belief in, the possibility of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population by such means as discouraging reproduction by persons having genetic defects or presumed to have inheritable undesirable traits (negative eugenics) or encouraging reproduction by persons presumed to have inheritable desirable traits (positive eugenics)."[2] Prominent in the late 19th century and the Progressive Era, eugenics became a core tenet of some of the policies behind Adolf Hitler's Nazi regime. While it is true that he initially saved countless lives, his work funded by The Rockefeller Foundation was and is designed to ultimately decrease the worlds population. This is being achieved by the world's crops becoming genetically modified. (GMO) For those who might be interested in more on this.... ahrcanum.wordpress.com/2009/09/13/borlaug-green-revolution-eugenics-genetically-modified-food/nationalexpositor.com/News/92.html

More good info, thx grayfingers. A lot of prominent politicians were on the eugenics bandwagon at the time - including Teddy Roosevelt
