Maybe the Danes will like him so much they'll keep him.
But there is really not much for him to do until Congress gives him a bill on health care. It's not like he could be lobbying (busting heads) the conservative Democrats that have been fighting him - and get them to tow the party-line. Maybe health care isn't as big a priority to him as we thought?
But that aside, getting the Olympics in the USA will create a bunch of construction jobs. And all kinds of tourism and service type positions. They'll be temporary, but at least people will be working. Here is at least one thing I hope he succeeds in.

Wow, with his constant speeches and TV appearances on every liberal talk show known to man, I'm surprised he can find time! Shoot, I'm surprised he can get time away from admiring himself or enjoying hearing himself talk ( translated-read teleprompter) to do anything. Olympics in Chicago? Not exactly a picture book location. Bet that will not be an easy sell.....Mel

I think any interaction with Americans (even Chicagoans) will let all the visitors know that we aren't all that different from them. As long as ACORN isn't running the show, all the visiting foreigners will get to interact with a lot of regular midwestern folks - not everything is going to be downtown. I'm sure the Olympic experience will extend for 100 miles from the city center.
And what's wrong with Chicago? I'm sure there were a lot of other American cities that were lobbying the US Olympic Committee for the honor of representing the USA. Chicago won this time around. I just assumed all Americans would be behind it. Guess I was wrong. I would have been behind NY, LA, Santa Fe, Chatanooga or wherever. Sure there will be tax dollars involved, but there will also be a lot of job creation - even if only temporary. And I also think the chance to build goodwill with other nations.
But in any case, Chicago probably won't get it anyway. The Olympics have never been in S. America. My money is on Rio.

thats just what i was sayin don't Chicago have one of the highest crime rates (maybe I'm wrong) -- wouldn't look too good for the visitors to be gettin mugged or beat to death wile there here haha
i herd a saying lately about puttin lipstick on a pig but at the end of the day its still a pig
hey i got nothing against people in Chicago i left my home town after 40 some years because i couldn't stand looking at the black hookers and drug dealers on every other corner anymore so my home town is no better theres nothing wrong with opening up your eyes and then saying what you truthfully see right --- they could have picked a better state in the united states to pitch for this is all I'm saying

If Chicago wins the bid...you bet your sweet bippy...all America will be forced to pick up the tab because Chicago is Broke... Broke... Broke...
What a wonderful way to pay back all the friends with sweet land and construction contracts for the fat cats and the union bosses...
Yep, it's been said, all the construction will be built within the city limits of Chicago...and all the councilmen have their hands and pockets open to reap the benefits. The main Obama election organizer and money person, Valerie Jarrett is in line to make millions on land and other contracts involving the unions.

Why not Chicago? China got the olympics, bad air, human rights abuses and all. I'm sure they even have hookers and drug dealers too.

Seems to me that there is a good chance that the location has already been decided, and Obama is going there so as to get the credit... Could be wrong, but it would be risky for him and his image to take the chance of being denied, especially when he is already raising eyebrows by spending his time and millions of dollars going there when there are so many issues to be dealt with here (such as talking to Commander of Afghanistan operations general Stanley A. McChrystal.) Obama has only spoken with him once since he put him in last spring. At least Bush was in contact with his generals weekly.
Update: Just saw on the news that Obama is meeting with McChrystal today, I say give him the troops he is asking for, or bring our people home.

Daley cleaned the town up. He replaced the black hookers and drug dealers with white political cronies. So at least the city appears cleaner than it did - just don't look to closely at the books...

I'd be very surprised if all the event facilities were built in the city limits. Where would the room come from? They could raze a bunch of tenement housing and build there - that should get rid of even more of the crime problem Sands is worried about. Plus I think Lake Michigan is a bit choppy for the rowing events. Maybe Lake Geneva up in WI? I don't know anything about Valerie. But sounds like she is doing some land speculation. She knew Chicago had a shot at the Olympics, so she bought up some land. If Chicago wins, she'll likely win (unless her sites aren't chosen to build on?). But if Rio gets it, as I suspect, then she likely goes broke. Isn't that the American way? Can't believe I'm defending a Democrat here. :-)

Didn't his father-in-law get stabbed by some crazy native in China? Crime will be he least of Chicago's problems if the Olympics come to town - at least the crime most of us think of. There will be so many cops working OT (and imported from the suburbs) that street crime wouldn't be a big deal - in my opinion. Not absent, but not a big deal. The biggest problem will be the white collar - as Jerry said. Making sure most of the money is spent how it is supposed to be spent - buying material and paying a bunch of hard-working blue-collar workers.

Friday should be interesting. Also agree with you on Afganistan. You can't put the man in charge and not give him what he needs.

From CNN:
Chicago bears a closer resemblance to Atlanta, the Olympic host in 1996, and Los Angeles, the 1984 host, Rosentraub said. The three cities already have existing infrastructure and sports stadiums, he pointed out, alleviating some of the financial pressure of hosting the summer games.
"The great thing about Chicago is that it needs very little infrastructure to pull off the Olympics," he said.
Chicago could also learn from Atlanta, which wisely re-used the housing that it built for Olympic athletes by turning it over to the Georgia Institute of Technology and Georgia State University for use as dorm housing, as well as below-market housing.
Atlanta and Los Angeles each turned a profit as Olympic hosts, and Chicago has the potential to do the same, so long as it acts wisely by using existing facilities, such as Soldier Field, so it doesn't have to build more than one or two stadiums, according to Rosentraub.
"The key to doing the Olympics is: don't build a lot of infrastructure that you don't need," Rosentraub said. "If you don't go crazy building facilities, you can make money on the Olympics. If you don't go crazy, it's impossible to lose. But if you go crazy, you lose your shirt."
