LOL. Never has someone won so much for doing so little.
Deadline for nominations is Feb 1st. He was inaugurated on Jan 20th. He really rocked the world in those 11 days...
Maybe they gave it to him because of all the campaign promises - we all know that politicians keep their promises.

Not too surprised. The goofballs gave one to Al Gore too. The committee is obviously composed of folks as dumb as a sack of hammers or so biased as to be blind to folks who shovel a good line of BS.....Mel

For all that most of the world seems to hate us, we can always count on the Swedes.

It is interesting that they would give the prize based on what someone is going to do. Being the center of worldwide attention durring the election is a nice point of intrest, but not nobel worthy(in my opinion).

The kicker is that the decision was not based on end result accomplishments but on what he is trying to accomplish and how they are interpreting what he is trying to do. That was my take anyway. I think it cheapens the award.

I read that as well. What's most interesting about the choice is that it's for exactly what got him elected - his promises and the "hopes" they inspire. It's not about anything he's actually done. Seems silly to award the *Peace* prize to someone who's not done anything concrete toward world peace.

It is interesting that they would give the prize based on what someone is going to do. Being the center of worldwide attention durring the election is a nice point of intrest, but not nobel worthy(in my opinion). Not necessarily 'going' to do. But what he says he wants to do. We'll see what he actually does. I wonder if they take the prize money back if he fails on all or most. In my opinion, trying isn't doing. Heck, if wishing is all it takes... I want world peace, free government checks for everyone without a deficit, and end to hunger and poverty without working, and a pony. Definitely a pony. Can I have my prize now? Oh wait, I can't actually do any of that stuff. Except maybe the pony. That award is definitely cheapened as you said.

Sitnwrap: Yes, it cheapens the whole nobel prize thing. Only 11 days in office an you get nominated for something you have not even done. . . . . . . Sad !!! Reckon I could get a nobel prize for science to develop a new fuel for car. . . . . . . Naahhhhhhhhhh !! Makes the nobel prize a real joke !!!

CNN said he would donate the 1.4 million dollar prize money to charity...but intends on going to Oslo to accept the prize. he should take that money to pay back the American taxpayers for that expense. i'll bet Air Force One eats that amount in gas. not to mention security, etc.
just my 2 cents, KD

Hmm The Pres says he's humbled by the award and doesn't deserve it. Guess he "can" recognize and speak the truth every now and then....Mel

I am not surprised... Jimmy Carter got one for bringing peace to the world, (cough) and ALGore got one for saving the world from global warming. (choke) They love Obama because he is cutting (gutting) America down to size, and abandoning our position of leadership. Mmmm, Mmmm, Mmmm.

I spoke nagative about what President Obama was doing and was called a racist, I said nothing about race, just the kind of stuff I have read to get here. I like what I have read. Tom
