Hello, my name is Jeff, 59 yrs. old, have two kids, 22 son, 16 yr. old daughter, and wife. Slowly learning lapidary skills, but do not have much experience still, after all these years. I started with a Thumbler tumbling in '05, but ground up the first few batches purchased on internet, so started buying rough to create my own tumbling rough. Got a 6 in. Rock Rascal, but soon learned the rocks had to be smaller than the ones purchased. I kept buying rocks, and eventually started selling them (small time), which takes up the time. Just recently started trying to grind and polish by hand, and recently son taught himself how to wirewrap (time to redo springs on gyRoc), but find there is hardly time to fit it in with trying to take care of business. I have only checked out website a couple of times back when I signed up in '06, (then mainly for specimen Id, and liked the instructional things), but stay away from most things public as I didn't use computer before 05, and usually function best from links. Some reason I came back to site the other day, and decided to try and join in for once. I hope to make friends if nothing else, and try and learn also. Have read a lot of old rock and Gem, but still not a lot of practical experience...

Everything that I do was learned from reading the posts here and practice. The better I get, the more I want to know. Always trying new stuff and it keeps getting funner! Welcome to the boards, hang around a while! Also, got any pics of what you're doing? Post plenty of pics and ask many questions, and have fun!

Hello and thanks. I actually went to your site when I stared checking buy and swap last night. I have a lot of pictures of rocks and slabs, birds and things from around the house, mainly. I forget everyone may have a webcam. I never used one for communicating. First it was either me or the house that was messy, then I just forgot about it. I almost used one after the remodelling, but stuff eventually found it's way back in the house, and I forgot again. I found some fire agate pieces in a bucket recently and finally started grinding them down to learn what to do, but listed them if they turned out half good. A friend has been trying to get me to do it for a long time. The most actual working with stones done by me (outside of cutting slabs) has been to hand file pieces of turquoise, or something soft with a 300 grit file when I would wait for daughter and her buddies to get out of school. I mainly run around with ebayitis, gathering, cleaning, photoing, listing, looking for more rough to do it over, try and feather in what's here, etc. while wishing to spend more time learning crafts. I found the interacting with the computer facinating (my wife is asleep, so I can't spell check right now) when I started, and can't, or don't want to stop. I can only get rocks that way any more, and try to help income, but have finally started with the grinder polisher. I will see if my son will let me photo some of his beginings, I took some earlier. I will try some pictures, if I can figure it out (have thousands of rock pics, had to delete 11,000 from pic service once used). I sort of joined one group, and there was a place that said download pictures, so I did. They were put in someone else's folder which is one reason I check things out, but not try and click on anything that might do things like that. If not guided, watch out. My daughter finally showed me how to upload to photobucket 6 mo. ago (cut and paste). I once downloaded a clip of Mt. St. Helens erupting, imported it to my desktop somehow after breaking it down by frames, deleted the icons trying to fix it, and ended up with blank files of each frame covering everything (I started to delete it, but gave up. they kept coming and coming. A friend saved me that time. It will take some time to check around this place, and figure out how to do things. Thanks again.

It is a fact, bar-non this is the best site we have found on the internet for rockhounds and rock artists, etc. We have seen answers to questions, comments to work and all have been with the upmost respect for askers and readers. Debby and Tom

Welcome back and I am glad you are trying to stay on board! If you are having problems posting pictures, there is a tacked up thread at the top of the rock tumbling category that really helped me. Fran
