So what was found today? Chicken Track (or Turkey Track) Brazilian Carnelian Nodules Palm Black Agate Thundereggs probably from Hauser Beds Jasper (Can you id?) Any idea what this is??? I've asked three people and received two answers - dino poop or fossil plant of some type. And the find of the day. A couple veteran rock hounds were very quietly working a hole they had made in the rock pile. They were pulling out from a completely disintegrated crate these black rocks. Theirs were larger than the ones I was able to get. They looked like this: And in the inside was: Rhodochrosite! - about a 1/3 - 1/2 of a bucket worth - all weathered black. The pieces were the size of fingers more or less, and people had overlooked them for the past five months. Not today. I got about 25 pieces. This place is amazing...

Now that was worth the wait! Thanks again for posting. I can't believe rockhounds of all people overlooked that weathered Rhodochrosite! We know better than to judge from the outside! LOL!

Whoa nice catch on the weathered rhodocrocite! That cut specimen sure looks like a plant fossil to me. The way the bundles seem to be distributed sure looks like a fern of some kind. The center looks kind of like some coprolite I've seen but I can't figure why dino poop would have that sort of symmetry in the exterior portion of the specimen.....Mel
PS: Man that looks like some great old timey palm you found there. Beautiful piece!
