So, I’m starting to believe in Karma. As of late, I’ve been doing a little more “good” than usual. Already, something amazing has come my way! I have received the MOST incredible RTH Christmas Exchange package from Adrian in Bucharest, Romania. I probably shouldn’t have opened the package until Christmas, but somehow when rocks are involved, all reason, logic, rules and tradition seam to go out the window. Please allow me to share some of the joy and excitement with you.
Stunned By It All – Yah, that’s me in my new Castelul Bran T-Shirt from Transilvania, Romania. Yes, I do look stunned in this photo, but you would too. Wait until you see what else I got.

Castelul Bran (1377), Transilvania, Romania - Beneath the T-shirt was a postcard and warm greeting from a fellow RTH’er. A wooden fridge magnet from Castelul Bran and a foldout photo booklet explaining the rich history that surrounds the castle. The calendar displays landmark buildings and fortified churches that would make an Architect drool the way we rock hounds sometimes do.

And Then There Was Chocolate – This is Heidi chocolate from Romania which I have never tried before. I’m not sure who Heidi is, but she looks delicious and definitely deserves a lick. That’s not all, there are also two Christmas ornaments that will proudly find a spot on the Christmas tree in another week, or so.

The “Killer” Display Piece – As if my heart wasn’t racing enough … Adrian packed up a piece of local petrified wood from Bucharest. This piece has been beautifully polished on the main face and end-cut, but enough of it has been left in its natural state that you know it is a piece of wood. This display piece will be cherished in our curio cabinet. Actually, there are NO curios in or cabinet, just rocks. Hmmm!

Danube River Petrified Wood – These are two natural pieces of petrified wood from the Danube River. I’m guessing that the Danube must have been feeling a little Blue after giving up these treasures. These will also be adopted as display pieces. Adrian probably doesn’t realize that Laura (my best half) is a supply teacher. In the hands of young minds, these examples of petrified wood will be “simply awesome, dude”.

Fern Leaf Fossil – Another amazing specimen piece that will WOW young minds, as well as many older minds including what is left of my own.

Silicified Wood – Yet two more examples of silicified wood from Bucharest.

Miscellaneous Treasures - I’m still trying to put a name on some of these. There’s wood, a sandstone concretion, some jasper(?), or agatized jasper(?), and possibly some chert(?) Help me out if you can.

Rude Rock 1 – Adrian, along with Mother Nature obviously has a sense of humour. When flipped the other way, this sandstone concretion from the Danube River simply resembles a turtle with its head and tail out. But when flipped this way … well my mind conjures up all kinds of images. This is one of those coffee table display pieces that will definitely stimulate conversation, or simply put a smile on your face.

Rude Rock 2 – No matter how you spin it, it’s still a rude rock! I’m still laughing to kill myself over this one!
![](http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu300/150fromfundy/Christmas%20From%20Bucharest/RudeRock1.jpg)
Isle of Lesbos, Greece – Beach Rock – Adrian is also very intuitive. How could he possibly know that I also love Lesbos. And to think, an island full of them. And if that’s not enough, look at the treasures found on the beach. Man, you have “tasted” life!

Adrian, I am an Engineer, so my limited vocabulary may not allow my to express my sincere thanks and gratitude for what you have done. You are incredibly generous in not only sharing your finds and your creations, but also in sharing a piece of the rich history and culture of Romania. Not only where the treasures beautiful, but the store flyers that you wrapped them in were fascinating. Man, you Romanians eat a lot of salami at Christmas time. Big salami, the size of your arm! Even if Santa doesn’t find me this year, you have brought excitement and laughter to my Holidays already. Thanks you SO VERY much!
Darryl.
