I have been asked if I could help with getting an identification of this green rock. She says she was told it was emerald possibly. No idea at all as to what quality it may be. She has several. Most all are opaque with a little translucency. Based on what I have seen on the web of pictures of emerald rough, it may be. However, it could very well be something else, so that is why I am coming to you folks with more experience and knowledge. Thanks; Mike (they have a crust of mica on them) first shot is dry; and so is this one; The next two are wet; and; My apologies if I should have put this in general rocks instead. Mike

Looks like emerald. From columbia or Brazil. Would make a nice cab, but not good for faceting. Value of those emeralds are not very much. Ken

Thanks Ken! And, to answer the question of will it scratch agate, well, it will scratch tigerseye, and it will scratch blue lace agate. But, it would not touch some brazilizn agate that I have on hand. For what its' worth, I am not so sure brazilian agate is really agate. Seems like it is some kind of "near diamond " sort of stone. So far, it is the hardest thing I have tried working yet. hmmm, maybe it isn't agate, just called that, maybe. lol!! Thanks again guys! Mike

The biotite mica is the giveaway on what it is. That is what gives it it's green color. Without any matrix rock, it is hard to tell whether it is Brazilian or Columbian. Ken
