Finding myself with an overabundance of slabs and an underabundance of cash, I'm offering slabs for sale. These are the first 2 batches I've put together. Pictured is what is guaranteed to be in a small FRB. If I have any more room in the box, you'll get a surprise or two, as well. Some of these are slabs that came from other RTH'ers, that I just have not had time to work with. Asking $35 for each small FRB, shipping included. FRB #1, contains tiger eye, wonderstone, copralite, and more that I don't have an ID for: SOLD!FRB #2, contains amazonite, mariposite, tiger eye, and some I don't have IDs for: SOLD!If you'd like either of these, PM me, please. I have ordered FRB's from the USPS, but they haven't brought them yet. If these sell quickly, I'll just go to the PO and pick up some FRBs. (Yeah, I'm lazy!) Thanks, Tom

Hi Tom - Good luck with your sale. I think your price-point is a little high. These look like slabs that go for $1.50 to $3.00 at shows. There have also been plenty of similar parcels of this modest quality on ebay that sold for $5 to $8 plus $5 shipping, so you are up against competitors charging about half what you are asking. Log into ebay and search the SLABS section of lapidary for "slabs" (in quotes) and ask for completed listings. See what sold for how much. Still, some folks may prefer to deal here so back to my wish for good luck.

Well, I tried. I have been haunting eBay as well as this forum for quite a while now, and I'm fairly familiar with what folks are getting for slabs "of modest quality", since most of my slabs were obtained from RTH members (like stonesthatrock, etc.) or eBay. I didn't say I had 300 pounds of slabs - I said I have something like 300 pounds of rocks waiting to be slabbed. They came along with an old slab saw that I dealt for, and I'm both thrilled and humbled to have been the recipient of such riches. I do probably have somewhere between 300 to 500 slabs, most of which I'll never have time to use. I would like to see links to specific slabs on eBay (those with bids), of similar quality to mine, that could be bought for $1.50. I would be interested in buying them, as would, I suspect, other forum members. I do appreciate the wishes for good luck - I need all the help I can get. Thanks, Tom

I don't think your prices are above the norm. Considering you are giving free shipping and they look solid. I have bought cheap rock from E-bay and was disappointed most of the time. You get what you pay for. I have always had good luck buying from RTH members.

Sorry but I'm confused. Do you mean that for the 7 slabs shown it will be $35.00? Do you mean the FRB that is about 4"X6"X1' high??? Nancy

Nancy, --- yes that's what he's saying --but shipping is included for the $35 ---- take the postage off and that makes the 7 slabs @ $30 or @$4 each
Tom, I have a bunch of tiger eye that I would sell you for $1.50 a slab -- I've had them at several shows and haven't been able to get $.50 or $1.00 for them so if you'd like them for a $1.50 I'd be glad to sell ;D --- the last couple shows I've been at I had larger slabs that I priced at $3 a # and didn't sell a one --- if each had a "killer" pic/design in it then yes, maybe they would be worth the $4 each -------------

Nancy - yes, we're talking about the small FRB, but the slabs pictured are not likely to be all that's in the box. After the slabs in the picture are in the box, I will fill in whatever space is left over with more slabs, slabettes, one-cab wonders, etc. And the slabs I'm selling are good quality, maybe not totally primo stuff (I don't have any opal or fire agates, etc.), but not junk, either - I won't send gravel or cruddy slabs. As I said before, 90% of my slabs were obtained either from eBay or from RTH members' sales. Snowdog - thanks, but I already have a bunch of tiger eye - I love the stuff! Bushman - thanks for the vote of confidence! Thanks, Tom

most of my larger slabs i sell $5 each of course it depends on the material and how much i paid for the rough. If i get it at a good price then i pass on the savings. There is some that is more as you see on my website, but those are special slabs you don't see everyday. I think $4 or $5 per slab right around 4" x 5" is a fair price. You have to price them at that to include your time, blade and oil costs. Just my 2 cents..

I think your prices are fine. I see that you sold them and pretty quick too. Heck, I pay 25/lb for slabs of nice graveyard at the local rock shop.

I'll be making up a few more batches in the next few days. I want to make sure I have a good mix of sizes and species in each batch, because I want anyone who gets one to be happy with it. I don't know how to stuff as much into a FRB as Mary Ann does, but what's in there will be worth the money, and there will be a little bit extra as well. Thanks, Tom

Mary Ann --- I agree with what your saying about a 4x5 slab , but, if you look at these he has pictured -- in the first pic ,4 of the seven are about 1&1/2 by @2" , the wonderstone is @ 3&1/2 x 2, and the top one is @4"x2" --- only one is in the 4x5 size----- in the 2nd pic the 4 small ones are about the same @2x2 , the top green one looks to be an end cut (looks like gray matrix in the swirls), the brazilian is @ 3&1/2 x 2&1/2, and the bottom one is @3x4 -------- none really fit the 4x5 size you refer too ----just hope there is alot of "extras" in that box ;D

I suspect there will be "extras". Tom seems to be conscientious, I just thought he had overvalued the slabs because some were smaller and some lacked color and pattern. Anything I said was for educational purposes, and perhaps for the benefit of a nieve buyer who might think that anything on RTH was more vetted than ebay, or a better deal than elsewhere.
In the last 5 years I have cut over 500 slabs and bought over 1500. I paid as low as 25 cents and as high as $90. I drew the line at the $225 African pietersite. but it sure was perfect. Point is, I know slabs. I know ebay prices, and I know show prices, and even a little bit about estate prices.
On the one hand these boxes were at least $10 too high based on what you can get for $35 elsewhere. But, on the other hand these slabs are worth what someone is willing to pay for them. I meant it when I wished "good luck", so kudos to Tom for recognizing what the local market would bear.
