Here is a nice very translucent piece of the jasp/agate locally known as Teanaway Jade. This is small one.........a wee bit less than two cubic feet. Most of this material is found in the river (Teanaway), and this year the river is very low so it is easier to find this material. Woody a closer look

Teanaway "jade" actually a very hard jasp/agate is a very fracture free material, and easily takes a great polish. You all will have to wait before this one gets cabbed, since it needs to be cut into manageable pieces on a wire saw first. for some unknown reason this material is usually found only in large sizes.............this one is actually a small one. Most are too large to move, at least by hand. To really confuse the issue, both nephrite, and jadeite are found in the Teanaway River, and its feeder streams. Woody Woody

I can't wait to see what it looks like cut and cabbed. I was also wondering how you got it out of there. That rock looks like it weighs a couple hundred pounds!!

Tim: It took a six foot prybar to break it loose, then it got barred onto a sled, tied down, and dragged up river to where we could get it up the bank. I will post photos. One of our club members got some shots of us getting it out of the river. Woody

Sounds like it was quite a project - but well worth it.

I bet you were all exhausted after that! Looks like it was worth it though and it sure shows some wonderful pattern to it on the outside! Fran
