Hubby thought he would open some random nodule before dinner. Can you believe what he found? Is this Lake Superior Agate? Whoaaaaa! A closer view of one of the halves:

Thats cool, the one on the left gives an illusion of rising up,with a valley and shadow.Looks like a botswana agate to me.

It looks like a Botswana agate with its coloring and banding and what little of the rind I can see. I like it!
But what do I know?

Oh, I realize you are right. And I just had the thread a short while ago with the small piece of Botswana, where people pointed out the rind to me. Well, I will figure it all out eventually.

Those certainly earn you bragging rights--what fascinating little creatures those halves are!

that's very cool.....how big is it? Polished that would make an excellent display specimen....

They are a bit under 3.5 inches long. I am thinking of photographing them again with a ruler. They definitely deserve a good polish. Right now, I have a lot of excavation to do in the garage before we can get the polishing lap out. But eventually...

Like the bot they do need a place to to be displayed, as a good rough bot is not going to be around much longer. Yes sad but true they are no longer sold unless they are fully processed or they do not leave the country. George

We have cut the rest, except for one really small one. I need to get some more photos out. One of the nodules was pretty much all Amethyst inside, another one was part Amethyst and part a pattern similar to the one shown in the piece I photographed here. There is also a piece with a very fine dark bullseye in the center.
