I've been watching the Chilean mine rescue and its heartwarming to see a successful operation in progress. It struck me as I am watching this, the President of Chile there at all the times I've watched, greeting the miners and their families. Hell, ours would be playing golf or hoops,or go on vacation.

Makes you proud to be an American, just knowing that it was American companies who designed and built the special drill and rescue cage, and an American company that actually drilled that hole. More American help with the special foods and rescue clothing that NASA provided. Makes me wonder how many of us have crawled into old abandoned mines, looking for that special rock or specimen. I know that I have, and was lucky enough to come out alive.

Finally, something we can cheer about.
Now back to the dismal swamp our fine leaders have thrown us in.

Yeah,it makes you proud. Better than that, it was an Aggie from Texas A&M that drilled it. Gig 'em.

With all that has been going on, it is a miracle. They have a long road to normalacy, if that is possible, and the nightmares will just start for real. My heart goes out to all involved, and miners that have passed before them. They deserve rest now.

One miner was met by his wife AND his mistress.
The mistress was arrested...
for contributing to the delinquency of a miner.

bushmanbilly, I believe if you check, the company in your link was plan C of the operation. There was plan A,B,and C. The three were all drilling. Plan B blew them out of the water, was considered the darkhorse of the 3. The owner of this company that got there first lives in Houston and attended school here. He was interviewed by our local news station the day after and talked about it.Gregg Hall is the owners name. Google plan B drilling hole

I am glad they are all finally safe and looks like two great countries side by side drilling to the rescue! Seems we always have folks ready to go where ever needed around this world to lend a helping hand or equipment to get the job done! That is something we can all be proud of! Fran

Here's an interesting story about the mining engineer that created and then oversaw the entire rescue. This included the three alternative plans for drilling news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101015/ap_on_bi_ge/lt_chile_mine_collapse;_ylt=AiYvojgrsMDrq87W.l12MltvaA8F;_ylu=X3oDMTJuaGJoaW9nBGFzc2V0A2FwLzIwMTAxMDE1L2x0X2NoaWxlX21pbmVfY29sbGFwc2UEY3BvcwMxBHBvcwMyBHNlYwN5bl90b3Bfc3RvcnkEc2xrA3N0cmFpZ2h0LXRhbA--A third borehole was designated as a guide for the Plan B drill, which widened it from about 6 inches (15 centimeters) to 28 inches (70 centimeters) to provide the miners with a way out. "Now with three plans it was enough for the two objectives we were looking for: shorten the time and minimize risks," Sougarret said. "There were many factors that I couldn't control, and the only way to minimize risks is to have alternatives." Every day without fail, Sougarret talked with the trapped miners, first on a phone dropped down the hole, and eventually by video conference calls. "They gave us ideas. They were proactive, (saying) 'Don't worry, Boss, tomorrow I'll tell you if it can be done.'" Some miners drew up maps using measuring devices the rescuers sent down the boreholes. With three drills advancing toward the men, it was only a matter of time. While Pinera pledged to bring the miners home by Christmas, Sougarret calculated the potential velocity of each drill and bet on three dates: Dec. 1 for Plan A to reach the refuge, Oct. 10 for Plan B to reach the workshop and Oct. 30 for the shaft in between. At 8:05 a.m. on Oct. 9, Plan B broke through. He had been off by a single day.So it seems they had three entirely different goals for each drill team. Plan B used the previously drilled bore hole. An amazing story about human endurance and ingenuity under stress. Hats off to all those involved....regardless of nationality. It's still just one earth. Chi-Chi-Chi! Le-Le-Le!

It was indeed amazing and incredible that the rescue went so smoothly with not even the slightest problem, except the cage got a little beat up. Even more incredible was the health and attitude of the men that were rescued. A real testimony to their faith, courage and willingness to all work together to assure their survival.
I did think it funny that the one guy invited both his wife and mistress to be there when he was brought out. And the wife stayed away. He might wish he was still down in that hole 'cause I'm pretty sure he is catchin' it from all sides from those two gals.
