Roy: A fast way to polish large flats like slabs is a high speed dry sander like Richardsons Ranch sells. You can get a great finish ready for polish in a matter of minutes. You do need good ventilation, and a good dust mask whist using this tool, and of course a polishing wheel. richardsonrockranch.comWoody

I bought a used Lortone many years ago and wasn't really impressed either. Slabs have to be weighted down (with any vibe lap) and pan has to be level. Mix the slurry on the thick side.

if you want a flat lap, the rose lap is the only way to go. bullwheel works great but you have to be careful and respect it and you will get sandpaper burn when you break a belt on high speed (sounds like a rifle going off)!

I have an old 20" H.P. Vibro-Lap, and love it. The same machine, with only some expanded metal guards added is now being made by Diamond Pacific.
