Borax

In the rough grind, do you all put borax in from the start, or just at the end to help with clean up?
I just did my first re-charge and put borax in for the last 1/2 hour - clean-up was a snap. But what happens if I put it in at the start, will it help or hinder the grind?
Thanks

I put borax in every load to help keep gas from building up. In the later grinds (500, 1000, polish) I use borax to burnish for about 18-24 hours.

I usually put Borax in every stage after coarse. And of course I burnish with Borax after every stage.

I found the mud seemed to get thicker a little faster with the borax in form the start. (In my Lot-O). But, it also got too thick a little faster. I had to add some water sooner or more often than w/o borax. I think I wil just cut back. I put in about 1Tbl, and I will got to 1/2 TBL.

I started putting borax in all the stages, cause it seems to help make the slurry faster and thicker. Only problem I have had with that was in the final polish getting it too thick.

I can't even remember the last time I used borax in a load, I've just been using it to wash rocks between loads.
