WOW! Hurray for you. Man I wish I had what it takes to quit. Been smoking 41 years now. My lungs probably look like a well used BBQ pit.

Curt- i smoked for 30 years and never thought i could stop. if i could do it, you can too. it was one of the most difficult things i've ever done. i did the patch and chewed on about 2000 plastic bar straws (still find the little gnarly bits in old jacket pockets) but i did it and certainly don't regret it now. y'all keep this in mind for the Great American Smokeout this November.

Congrats, KD! I huffed and puffed for 52 years, and in that time, I musta quit 50 times. But then, 4 years ago, my doc prescribed something called Chantix. I was only 1 week into it, when I stopped. Haven't even wanted one since then. It's a miracle drug, I think.

Congrats to all of you who have quit! If you don't know this, the reason it is so hard to quit is because your body has stopped producing the chemicals that are mimicked by nicotine. You have to give your body time to realize that it's not getting them at all and it will start producing them again. Easy to say, hard to do, but that's the process.

Congrads!!!
I imagine you are over it for good after ten years but be careful.
I quit when I turned thirty, cold turkey and stayed smokefree for over 20. On a job, I started going outside with the smokers to gossip and chill a couple of times every day...unfortunately I loved the smokey smell and took a puff and was back on a pack a day or more real soon...I quit again though; this time for good. Much harder to quit the second time and I can't go through it again.
Ditto to what you said to Curt...If you can stay smoke-free for a year or two all the worst effects go away too .. you can do it

Congratulations KD. I quit just over 3 years, the father in law says he still gets the odd twinge, he quit 40years ago, said sometimes the smell catches him, I don't think you ever truly kick it.
Like any addiction it can be all to easy to relapse. I remind myself about the things I've gained, my clothes don't stink, I can actually taste what I'm eating! I have extra cash, well that lasts until her indoors gets her hands on it. : )

Congratulations. I quit drinking 26 years ago. Went cold turkey, without any outside help. Now if I could only quit smoking. The nearest I've come to quitting was almost 2 years ago when I had pneumonia. I couldn't smoke without trying to cough a lung up. Maybe that's what it'll take for me. Don
