Hi All, I had a "sleepy tumbler batch" that I changed yesterday but the grit was still as good as the day when I put it in a week ago
Its the first time this has happened to me in 6 yrs can anyone tell me why this happened?
The barrel wasent too full it was the same recepie as I used the week before ! but a new batch of rock
I just washed it out and put the grit back in and a tea spoon of paste and it is grinding now (24 hrs later) !!
Yours Mystified,

Hi Jack - ive had this when the stones are too large and there arent any (or only very few) small ones in the mix.
Stones too large - all a similar size - too few has caused this for me.
Not enough contact / movement between them to cause the grit to break down in the usual space of time - it would probably go eventually - but over months or weeks instead of days.
Hope this helps.

Mark is right about the size of the rocks in any given load.A rule of thumb is to have at least 1/3 of the load being small rocks to 1/2" in size. This is very important and we tend to forget it at times.
There are only a few things that will cause you problem Jack.
Too much water, over loaded barrel, turning speed too slow.
The most difficult of these to spot is the barrel speed.Sometimes the belt slips, one of the pulleys are loose, the barrel slips on the rollers,no lube on the roller bearings or an over loaded barrel.

I've had this very same problem two cycles in a row. I am trying to get a 3 lb barrel of sodalite through 220. The first week, I looked in. All the grit was in a paste at the bottom of the barrel. I feel like I have enough of a mix of sizes in the load. So I put it through again, this time for 11 days (my schedule can be a bit erratic). Open the barrel--same thing. I wondered whether it was not turning fast enough as the 33b is running a bit slow. But the pet wood going through 600 in the other barrel did just fine. Is it possible I had too many pellets? I worry that I'm overdoing the pellets, but that's because I keep getting chips in the finer stages. Still, I plan to get a new belt for the machine as well as my 33A. Several people have remarked on the 33b belts on the new machines needing to be replaced quickly. I bought mine last November. I hope that fixes it -- I want that sodalite!

Hi All, Many thanks for the help
I looked in again today and as you said to many big stuff I bought some Rough beads & I am polishing them seems to many the same size, so I put in a handfull of saw cuttings and chips,
Thanks we will see how that goes.
