I have been tumbling some green and peach aventurine for a couple months now, recharging once a week. Last Monday, they had been in AO 1000 pre-polish for a week, so I cleaned them up - they were looking pretty good - not shiney, but nice and smooth. So I restarted them in Borax. I was going to let them go until Tuesday, then clean them up again and restart with Cerium Oxide polish. But the weather turned, it got cold, and I didn't want to play in the cold water. So I decided another day wouldn't hurt. But then, other things came along, and I forgot all about them. Monday is my normal "recharge" day, so I got set up to do it this afternoon, and suddenly, I remembered - they've been in Borax for a week! After rinsing and drying, I decided the Borax is probably the best "polish" I've ever used on aventurine - I've never had any come out this pretty before! Alongside them, I had another barrel that has followed the same stages and grits as the aventurine, but all it had in it was saw scraps and "junk". Well .... looky here All in all, I think I've taught myself something new, entirely by accident! Thanks for lookin, y'all, and Merry Christmas! Tom

I suppose anything that doesn't hurt it can only make it better! Thanks!

Great job! I "dulled" some fluorite once in a pre-polish borax wash--now I know why! Sure did work great on the harder stones, though.

I also use AO 1000 for my pre-polish. There have been a few loads where the burnish after the pre-polish looks so good there is no need to complete the polish. I think this phenomena is material dependent, because it doesn't work all the time for every load.
