I tried this LAST YEAR and wasn't very successful - I would like to get some RTH members together for a Field Trip. I'm thinking Arizona. Would anyone be interested? Banjo and Mrs Banjo? Gemkoi? BAZ? Texas rockhounds? Utah rockhounds? NM rockhounds? SANDSMAN? Susan

Dang, wish I was closer... this sounds like so much fun! Hmm, maybe a few of us northwesterners could get together and rent a motorhome or something? lol

I always down for a rockhounding, espicalling in my home state. keep me posted Susan, Eastern Arizona there is allot of Fire agate fields. Central Arizona there fossils everywere. I mainly this past year been hunting for Arizona Diamonds. (herkimer style quartz) in Central Arizona near my family cabin north of Payson. Once may comes around though, it best to stay above 5000ft elevation, so keep that in mind. I done many trips in the summer time, but you must restrict your heavy working/moving to the early mornings, and evenings. Otherwise you dry out so fast, your head will spin. BUt i am sure you know about a bit Susan.

Guys, I was thinking Memorial Day Weekend, only because I have 3 days off. Last year we were gonna get together and do some hounding in the Luna, NM area where there is some really beautiful agate, but it just sorta fell apart. I'm thinking Burro Creek/Baghdad area, maybe? Perhaps we could persuade Banjo to lead us to the elusive purple dendritic agate? (and Shain, I'm always up for collecting FIRE AGATE - I've been to the Round Mountain/Black Hills area several times...) If we can't get it together that soon, then maybe we could REALLY PLAN for something later in the Fall - I think the Sandsman might even make his way out here by then...and maybe folks like EarthDog and his lovely lady Takila, Ron, KD, Kim and Stefan could visit the beautiful Southwest. Whaddaya say, RTH members? Susan

The Bagdad area would be fun, i got a couple slabs from banjo and just started cabbing them up. they are gonna be very nice. Theres a ton of agate fields in that area, as well as some garnets, and copper minerals. End of May, i am for it, though it may be just a day trip for me. Lets start a list and make it happen.

Count me (and Mrs. BAZ) in Susan, I'd love to see some of Gemkoi's Fire Agate spots and Banjo's creek. I'm up for anything, weekends would be choice!

Shain, are you finding those crystals near Diamond Point?

Yup, My family cabin is near the East Verde, and really the Diamond Point occuarnce streches from highway 260(east) to highway 87(west), north of Payson. They are allowing diggs for a cubic yard of soil at Diamond point. BUt only there, the rest of the occurace is subjected to float collecting. Which is how i collect most of them anyway. BUt the Amethyst points are best found when digging.

OK, since you brought it up. I am already going to be in AZ from 5/15 to 5/21. I'm flying in and out of Phoenix and the main event is there, but it does not start until 5/17. From then on until the day I leave, Sunday 5/21, I'll be tied up, but I'm getting there Monday 5/15 intending to go out and rockhunt wherever, until Wednesday evening. I'm majorly excited about it, and even more so now that there's been some discussion of a field trip. Obviously the days I happen to be there aren't going to create a field trip, but if anybody is around, it would be great to hook up for a day trip. I'm landing in Phoenix on Monday afternoon and still haven't decided where to stay Monday/Tuesday, but, since I have ALWAYS been tied to Phoenix, my preference will be to go elsewhere for those nights. I was thinking maybe Winslow (another trip report on your site, BAZ).
This is for real, I have my plane tickets, and barring an act of God I will be in AZ on those dates.

Sounds great, but a little too far for me. I'd be willing to meet sometime in souther Utah where there is some gorgeous petrified wood or septarian nodules. Maybe another time.
