I picked this up for a quarter - hope I didn't get taken! What in the world is it? Should I cut it open? Any idea of where this is from? Thanks for your help! Johnny

Yes ,cut it open, I think you'll be glad you did. Probably going to find some nice color and pattern in it. Is it about fist size?

It's a Thunderegg - Looks to me like a Buchanan Ranch. These typically have a quartz and hydrothermal agate core with a great star pattern.
These are the older eggs which have a much better quality to them, than the newer (larger eggs).
