My uncle gave me this last year when he found out that I was addicted. lol ;D Pretty sure this is turquoise but what kind? and some that my dad passed on to me. The rough piece, top center, he had been cutting with a saw blade; jewelers saw I think. When he was doing this, I wasn't interested in working rocks or making jewelry. I would give anything, to have him back for a day now any ID's would be appreciated..........gary

I can't help with the I.D.'s Gary, and I'm sorry to hear you Dad isn't with you anymore. He is smiling down on you though, and you 2 will talk again someday. The pieces he did are beautiful.

I'd ask your uncle about the stone he gave you. It's varicite, but which mine who knows. If he says it's damele, you've hit the jackpot. Then again, it could be chinese too.... no telling, especially from photos.
The stuff from your dad looks like material from many different mines, there's no telling. But dad put a nice shine on there for you for sure!
Thems' my 2 cents worth of guesses.... <Grin> Phil

Thanks Phil! Is there another way to tell the origin of the varisite?

the first one is called variquoise, even though variquoise was just a name created to sell the turquoise. In other words, there really is no such thing, just a promtional tool.. It's rather expensive these days. It can go under the name danille or some others. I only know this, becasue i have some. mary ann

its probably just green turquoise, that is all I think the variquoise is really.
I really like the green turquoise with the brown spiderwebbing and have only a small(expensive) chunky that is being carved into a sea turtle
Look at the "white turquoise" phenom. That is just low grade no color turquoise that usually gets dyed and sold as the real deal. Fire Mountain has all this white turquoise beads and stones that people are buying up as something special.
What ever that first one is it will make some beautiful cabs

Nice material, Gary. The one your uncle gave you looks like the first wire-wrap I ever did. I bought the slab at the Prineville Pow Wow a couple years ago for $10. I just got this one cab out of it. The cab is about 2" tall. I wondered what it was and where it came from, so I am enjoying reading this thread. Here's the cab/wrap. Garry
