It's Easter late-thirty but I just had to get back to my rocks today! I took the advice from my "Teaser" thread ( forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=trtphoto&action=display&thread=44699) and stopped at the end of 1000. I pulled the cabs out and set them aside because I DO want to move them onto polish and burnish. The rest however, is done! My batch consisted of a large hunk of mahogany obsidian that was gifted to me at a rock club meeting, 6 dremel cabs, and the rest was slag from Clint (Stoneviews) and ceramics to fill the void. Gotta say, that slag is some FUN stuff to work. I found that it is a tad bit tougher than obsidian because it has a lot of air bubbles in it. Those little air bubbles like to pop out just when the piece looks perfect ! I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to use them for but it sure was fun taking the challenge, plus they are REALLY pretty! Whole batch: The slag: Close ups of the slag: Before shot of the Hunk (I actually took a picture of the bottom because at the time, I thought it was the top ): The Hunk now…. (this is the bottom) Hunk top!!! (When I first got this rock the bottom, er….. top now was completely black and looked uneventful. Wow was I wrong!) Even though I already posted pictures of this in my last thread, this one is worth showing. I tried to angle the photo so that you can see the layers on one side. Intense huh? Almost looks like sheets of paper…. Thanks for giving up some of your time to look at some of mine!!! ~Krystee

Krystee, those are all fantastic!! That slag glass has the most wonderful colors and shine and then it is all topped off with that obsidian. Outstanding job.

I almost didn't respond because I am now feeling an irresistable urge to go look for slag glass to tumble--they are gorgeous! And thanks for the second obsidian photo; the first was beautiful but that angle is perfect.

Thanks everyone! ;D
Jack and Susan, I don't know if Clint ships internationally but he has slag available on his website.
Tammy, The Lot-O is a vibe. I use it for stage two until polish. The hunk was too large for the rotaries so it went straight into the Lot-O in graded #220. I rinsed and recharged daily for a couple of weeks to get it pit-free, then I removed some ceramics and added the slag and cabs.

Thanks Jack, Mel, Frankie and Kate!!! ;D
I got a nice email last night from the guy that gave it to me. My "Hunk" and the "How I Did It" will be in next months newsletter from my local rock club. I thought that was pretty cool and unexpected!
