And should I be posting ID questions in this folder or the rock identification folder? I picked these up in east central AL. They resemble the other quartzite stuff in the creeks a few miles from that area, but all of the ones from this particular place have something else about them.. There is probably a term I don't know... they seem kind of glowy? :blush: I know that's not technical, but they have a greenish grayish tint that seems more on the inside. (I tumbled them a little in rough to remove some of the weathering ) And backlit with my phone: Thanks for any help! Kate

I don't think that is quartzite. Quartzite is metamorphic sandstone nd is usually opaque.
My guess is that that is massive quartz with iron staining. It should polish well, but appears to be highly fractutred.

I agree with Darryl. Quartz, not quartzite. Quartzite also has visible grains/rough texture.
