I picked up some slag glass today to tumble. It seems to me that there was a thread here somewhere where tumbling it was talked about. I've looked but it is eluding me so far. Has anyone got any experience they are willing to share on the matter? Here is a pic of what I picked pu today thanks for lookin...........gr

I've never tumbled slag glass, but my guess is that it would be tumbled just like Apache Tears. There are several threads about that. Don

Well Gary, I was waiting for someone else to give hints, but I'll try to recall my procedure.I started them off in coarse grit. Seems like when I did glass, maybe 3 or 4 days, didnt want to take off too much mass. You can check daily to see,the barrels should be burped anyway, with the gas buildup that can occur.I think I ran them through the other steps as normal weekly runs .I did use 1000 grit before polish.I dont know if I used any filler with them or not. This was done in rotary tumblers before I had a lot-o.

Thanks Snuffy! Thats what I'll be tumbling them in is a 12lb barrel. Was your course grit 60/90 or less? I was just going to mix em in with other rock and obsidian but, now I think I'll go back and get enough to make a full 12lb load.

Gary, it was 60/90.In a 12lber, the glass will grind off sooner than in the smaller barrels,so probably a few days in coarse.I used a lortone 45C on mine. I think I put a handful of broken little pieces of safety glass in with it I got from the glass company, they vacuum the broken windshields out of the cars and usually have a shop vac full. That will help it gas up too, really had to burp it.

Snuffy, How often do you have to burp the barrel?

Gary,I'd check it daily the first few days. You may not have a problem with it.I could tell by feeling the end of the barrel. It normally has an indented end,the gas will make it bulge out.
