Gary, that sounds like a wonderful site. Let me know if you have some to share, I would love to buy some from you. My barrels are easy they are only 3 lb'er.

Really looking forward to your results Gary! I love tumbling slag, however, I have not done a batch start to finish in the rotaries. I only use a rotary for the 60/90 and burp at least once a day. Stage two on I use graded grit, borax and a lot of ceramics in the Lot-O. Sure is pretty stuff huh?

I have tumbled a lot of slag in the past. yes, burp the barrels often! I had to do it every day for the first few grits. Course I ran for 2 days, check then 2 days more. 120-220 I would run for 4 days, 500 and a lot of filler, run for 5-10 days. 1000 I would run for 10 days with lots of filler. Then polish for 10 days. Slag is different depending on where you get it. Some is tougher than others so the recipe can change according to how much mass you are loosing. At times, I would run a couple loads through the 3lb tumblers, pull them and then continue because you can loose that much. I would increase the time running in the later grits because with a bunch of plastic pellets in there, the grit would break down a little slower. Just remember to keep burping the barrel. I have tried baking soda and it has helped extend the time a day or two but still need to relieve that gas! Fran

I ran some regular glass from broken bottles and found that Borax helped with the gas too. My glass outgassed straight thru the 500 stage, Borax gave me 2 to 3 days between burps (or as I learned the hard way- lid blow offs!

i've tumbled quite a lot of glass one way or another, the main pitfall i've found is that you need to check it/burp it often as it does become quite gassy. it is soft, too, so it shapes up quickly and you lose a lot of material. i typically run several loads in coarse to accumulate enough to go on the the next stage. i'll look back for some of my photos.

KD, thanks for posting your pics! I just started my first load of glass about an hour ago. Can't wait to see if they turn out as good as yours. I've been given lots of good instruction on tumbling the glass so it should turn out ok, I hope
