Howdy folks, One thing about my old job and all my old contacts was it got me onto lots of big private ranches where I often was given permission to hunt Amerind stuff. These are a few of the bead associated things I've picked up over the years: California coastal stuff from shell mounds and by my old house in Ojai. Miwok material from a ranch I had access to in Pope Valley, CA and upper left are old paleo punched olive shell beads from ancient Lake Tulare where a buddy of mine had cotton fields. Bottom is a set of beads showing various stages of construction. Various California stuff, beads, musket and pistol balls and caps, and stone drills:

very nice, I like that contact period stuff. I too find the shell beads sown here on the shell mounds, one site produces nothing but the shell blanks

Interesting. I was talking to a guy one time whose family used to dig for stuff like that. He snuck a candy necklace into the site and planted it where they would find it and they were pretty excited when they found it.Until it started to disintegrate. ;D

Snuffy: That's a hoot! *L* I had some friends that were also prone to pulling that sort of gag. Ain't real funny though when you've been out in the sweltering sun digging in ash all day and black from head to toe. That screening was friggin hard work....Mel

That's great stuff, Mel. Where did you find the musket balls?

Paul: Found those as surface finds in a blow in sand dunes in Keeler, CA on the shores of Owens Lake. Looked to be a historical period Paiute camp.....Mel
