A few months ago I got an old 18" Highland Park saw from a freind of mine for $500. It had been sitting under an overhang on his house for about 5 years and exposed to the weather. He used to own a rock shop in the Bay Area and it was used extensively in the shop. It had been stored since he closed the shop. It was all gunked up and there was some rust on the cover and some of the guide rails for the carriage. Also the drive pulley on the blade shaft had wobbled for quite a while and beat up the shaft. My restoration efforts were to thoroughly clean and repaint the exterior, replace the guide rails and redo the blade shaft. Rather than replace it I had my son turn the end of the shaft down to 7/8" and I replaced the pulley with one with the 7/8" bore. Also, I welded some casters on the legs so I could move it around much easier. The blade bearings were in great shape so all I had to do was grease them. Before photos: After: Now I can see inside those large rocks that have been sitting around for many years! Bob

Bob, that's a nice job. I painted my first Frantom the same color. I like the belt guard. Was that a school/OSHA version? My HP 24 guard barely covers top of belt.

John, The owner of the defunct rock shop got the saw from the inventory at a school that had closed, so yes, it was an OSHA approved version. I really appreciate having the full belt cover with a cat and 3 grandsons wandering about my shop. Bob

Speaking of looking really good ... your workshop looks far too clean, Bob! And congrats on rehabbing the saw! Awesome!

Nice rehab, I especially like your color choice. I've put most of our larger machines on wheels, might think you'll never move 'em, then something changes and you need to. Makes the moving or storage so much easier. My compliments.

That looks great. I like the belt guard too. My HP 14" does not have a guard at all. It scares me that I might get caught in it. So I keep a chair next to it so I remember not to get too close.
Mine came with wheels on the back legs only. I suppose I could put wheels on the front too. But does it walk around if on wheels?

I know what you had to go through, excellent work on it, I had to do the same with my 16 HP I picked up for $450 Only thing I did was move the electrical box on it
