Thanks Ed for the tribute. I think I was just getting onboard here when John was moving to New Orleans. I missed out on a few of his items. Looking forward to seeing more of his material as well as his work. steve

i looked back to some of his older posts and sadly, all the old photobucket ones had been deleted. but here are some of my photos to share, both his preforms that he'd given to me and the techniques he pioneered and i copied: the vernier shot, he was a master: he shared his secret with me of how to dop a cab with druzy, this is a laguna agate he sent me as a rough stone: and he instilled my overwhelming addiction to rutile: and my fascination for plumes: thanks for this thread, Ed. You read my mind, Ed. One of the best threads ever on RTH was Bear’s cabs with pictures in ‘em. Unfortunately, all those terrific pics disappeared a couple of years ago. I might have some of those pics on one of the old computers – I’ll check for sure. In the meantime . . . Some preforms from John. Some scraps!! Woodward Ranch material And a Morrisonite slab I got from John. He wasn’t even active on the board when I posted this one, and he recognized it right away. ;D

Thank you guys for posting this tribute! I tried to go back and find pictures of John's work after seeing the other thread. I guess he has not been as active the past few years when I have been following the board, so I appreciate the chance to see how he inspired all of you (who, in turn, inspire me!)

Wow! That last Morrisonite looks like a pink oriental painting! Is that Mount Fuji in the background?
What a nice way to pay tribute to a generous rockhound.

Thank you KD and Rich, I know there are more of his pre-forms in the hands of members, please post pictures. You both have been touched by John's skills and it shows in your cabs, they're gorgeous.

What and incredible bunch of cabs! John sure knew how to pick out good material and get the best from the best rough. And, you all sure did the final cabs up real purdy!......Mel

I'm really sorry to hear about John passing. I'm adding a cab that was one of his preforms that Kim (Rockyracoon) finished and gifted to me. Because of her incredible generosity (I was fairly new here at the time and overwhelmed with the unexpected gift), and the magnificence of the material and finish, it remains one of my finest treasures.
