It looks like it may have the cell structure of a piece of whale bone, but can't tell for sure. Maybe someone with collecting experience in that area of the country will chime in here with more info.

Hi Elizabeth, I found this on an Oregon Beach at Coos Bay last summer. Don't know if it helps compare. We suspect this is whale bone. Jo

I could also be petrified Myrtle Wood. It is rather common on this beach. The Myrtle Wood is often light gray on the skin and black on the inside. It doesn't show much grain pattern. Bob
