I recieved my light box and I'm very HAPPY with the results! I am still experimenting with background colors but here's a few of some of my nodules. I have many, many more...! ENJOY. Parcelas Agate Laguna's Strange One. (Mel...can you help on the formation of these?) sometimes I cut a nodule and it's almost like it hasn't totally agatized. Moctezuma Agate Coyamito Agate

Awesome agates and photography Steve. I've got to get me a light box. The agate you asked a question about is showing one of those aragonite pom pom type formations. Sort of a tightly packed sagenite ball or hemisphere that you've sawed through. Pretty common in Lagunas. I have one example where the formation is huge. Unfortunately, aragonite is like calcite and pretty soft ( about mohs 4 or so) so when not fully agatized, it will undercut. That's why the famed pom pom agate of Needle peak is often cut as a doublet with a quartz crown. If you try to cab it au natural , the pom poms often get chewed up by the wheels....Mel

Oh, that's a fine box you have. I, also, am in the market for one. I'm tired of having to drag my stuff in the sun or under lamps to shoot photos. Beautiful stuff!!!
Can't wait to see what else you put under the box!!!
I also saw your photo in the This Is Me Thread. What's the matter - couldn't you fit in your new purchase???

Great agates ! and the light box works fine . I like the sun , in the summer, but really need one of these in the winter . i take alot of pictures for ebay mostly , it is also a more professional picture than holding out in your hand ..

Beautiful Agates! May I make a suggestion? If you make one of these stands (the base can be smaller and the top piece slightly larger) and put some double sided clear tape on the top piece and use it to hold your pieces from behind, the supporting stand won't be visible in the photo. The bases can be easily made from off the shelf pieces from Tap Plastics. It is the method I use to hide the support stand. Bob

Excellent pictures. What did you end up getting for a light box?

Super specimens, Steve! I bought a little light box, but haven't been as successful as you with my photos. Keep 'em comming.

Those are drool worthy for sure. Those pictures are great. I might have to consider a lightbox in the near future.

Thanks everyone! Thanks Bob for the advice. May I ask you..what is Tap Plastics? I'll be looking for something I can create one like this. The Lightbox is actually a purchase off ebay. It was 30 bucks shipped...included a camera tripod, 2 lights on stands, the lightbox and 4 different color backgrounds. I was very happy with it....and it's very compact and easy to set up. steve

Steve, Tap Plastics is a chain of retail plastic supplies as well as fabricated pieces. They are located in California, Oregon and Washington. If you google them they may have a catalog and do online sales. Bob
