Howdy folks, Sorted out the batch from yesterday and took a few shots up closer for those of you interested in that sort of thing. Here they are and thanks for lookin.....Mel Alibates Flint form north Texas; Got this at the knap in last spring but it makes a fine tumble with lots of pink and purple. Flint Ridge Flint, another of my favorites: Flint form the creek by my house. Ain't that colorful but take a fine polish: Few odd wood slabettes from my Three Rivers trip: Couple of fossiliferous flint slabs from Eagle Pass: Rio Grande Agate slabettes from Eagle Pass: And finally a few examples of Texas wood:

Snuffy: I got a little Alibates Flint to cab too. Folks at the knap-in were commenting how they weren't sure how the guy who was selling it obtained it as the collecting area is apparently closed. Some said he probably collected it illegally. I debated whether or not to buy some but then I decided what the heck, he may have had access to a private ranch near the Park so had better add some to my collection while I have the chance *L*. Have you seen any of that strange brown wood in my fourth pic out in your part of Texas? Sure am curious as to what that stuff is. I think our local nature center has a collection of Texas wood. I'll have to check for a match sometime...Mel

Mel, I read where knappable cobbles of Alibates flint have eroded into the Canadian River and can be found in western Oklahoma and as far as Ft Smith,Arkansas. As for the wood, I haven't encountered that type here that I can recall.

Krystee: I really love doing pet wood but man it takes patience. Much we have here in Texas is very hard and angular and I've had a lot of this stuff in coarse grind for almost two months now. I'd not tumble it as much due to this difficulty but it's just such interesting material that I can't resist putting a little in every mixed load......Mel
