In a week I'll be driving from down Hwy 1 from Santa Cruz to Cambria, then cutting east to Paso Robles. From there I'll go to Bakersfield, Tehachapi, Barstow, Vegas & then home to Cedar City, UT. Last year I found decent jasper at Pico Creek near San Simeon. Some of it looks like ocean tumbled Stone Canyon jasper. What else can I find along or near that route? I'm a jasper & agate lover. Lynn

In that area you can find jade, cats eye jade, & moonstone. Search the beaches, its a great area. Here's a pic of jade from the cove:

The beach parking across from San Simeon State Park has the SDan Simeon jasper you described and other beach rocks. At Cambria near the North end you can collect the "moonstones" which are really agates. The best beach rock collecting area was at the beach at north end of Piedras Blancas Motel. Last time I was there it was closed but someone working there wouldn't let me collect. Just north of there at Willow Creek is the easiest to reach jade/serpentine area. Good hunting!

Rosemond has some nice jasper and palmroot. Out near Kramer Junction ( where the 395 and the 58 meet) there is some opalite, palmroot, jaspers and agate. Kingston Mountains for amethyst. There is a lot of material that could be collected in the areas you are headed

Too hot except along the coast unless you can collect early.
