The LR-2000 is a somewhat useful tool for determining claim status, though it is not always up to date or accurate. The only real way to be sure of land status is to go to the district BLM office for that region. All mining claims must be renewed on an annual basis, I believe the date is Sept. 15, same every year. If you are late with your renewal, the land goes back into BLM inventory and then may be "claimed over". Your claim also needs to be filed at the county of location tax assessor office. Hope that helps a little.

Wow greg that sounds really cool if it is legit. People say that I already look like an old prospector. I have the grizly gray beard and I am often seen walking about on a very hot day talking to myself. I just have to dig up my beach pail and shovel LOL Stu

Yeah, without checking with the local BLM, you might be paying for something you could get just for the cost of filing a claim yourself. Up where my old ranch was there were a lot of old mines on BLM land you could file on if you desired. Might have issues with land reclamation bonds or something like that though. I like the idea of patented mining claims better as those come with the land rights and you can build on them if you like. BLM is getting very strict with some of it's requirements on unpatented claims these days..............Mel

at one time i was looking into buying land and learned alot ... the one thing i learned was that if you buy a quit claim deed .. it could be totally fictional and the land doesnt even have to really exist ... and could be made up or sold to you and not even really be owned by the seller ... basically no guarantees ! so one would want to get a WARRANTY DEED !!! but it seems the BLM only deals with quitclaim deeds ... which is not very good for anyone buying online ! heres an excellent read that I found most helpful ! www.rawlandguide.com/RawLandGuide.pdf

Hey, is it just me or do those rocks look "planted"? (especially the clean one) but I'm on the east coast so I could be totally wrong.

No sign of desert tarnish on any of those rocks. Notice the split agate. Is that a footprint where someone stomped it into the ground ?
