When I did this, I didn't see it until my wife and daughter pointed it out. They right off said, it looks like the moon and stars. It is something new that I've been trying out. The second pic is the first of this type that I did and I didn't think there wasn't enough contrast. So, that's how I came to make the moon and stars one. Would this be considered intarsia? A Rutilitated Quartz with an obsidian backing. I was thinking the black would make the gold needles stand out more This was actually the best shot of the Ru Qtz. Dino bone? ( self collected here in Holbrook Az) Crazylace thanks for lookin!

On your second attempt at trying something new you come up with The Moon and the Stars, and now you're asking us what that technique is called? It's called genius.

The moon and stars is beautiful. I also like the rutilated quartz, you are right that black background sure sets off the golden needles. Great job on all of them.

Love the moon and stars (or is that Jupiter?)!
I have a pair of lapis backed rutilated earrings, the blue also works. But, the black is classier.
Beautiful work Gary.

Gary That moon and stars piece is OUT OF THIS WORLD lol. The others are great as well but I see a great deal of potential in the moon and stars piece. In fact I can see you developing an entire collection. You can name it after one of the NASA projects like Gemini, Apollo, or Mercury. I can see doing a sun and the stars maybe use a really bright piece of Bumble Bee for the yellow sun. How about an earth and the stars with a nice mottled piece of say Lappis as the blue planet earth. You might want to play around with the shape of the cab as well. I think I would like to learn how to do inlay like you did here. Did it take a long time to learn? Stu

Totally freaking awesome! The moon & stars! I love it! One thing's for sure, you sure got Uncle Stu's wheels spinning around on that one! The rut quartz - amazing! And you've got my wheels spinning around on that one! The others - very, very nice intarsias!!!!!

All great, but that first one is amazing!! I keep going back and just stare at it, That has to be the most unique and pleasing combination I have ever seen in a cab. I don't know much about intarsia, but it must be incredibly challenging to get a fit that tight on a curve.
