Has anyone else noticed that some searches you do now are like 80% of the screen is just adverts instead of search results "proper"? Many searches are only showing 2 sites now unless you scroll down past all the ads. I dont like em. Visit www.fairsearch.orgIts a wonder RTH is still here the way that greedy lot are destroying their own gateway to the net - which of course they are allowed to do - because they did develop it!!! :/

I said back in 1992 when Al Gore created the net that it would get ruined by advertisements. But I do have an interesting story to tell about Google. that occurred the other day. It’s a long story but I’ll make it short. I was in a bead shop talking to the salesperson. We were discussing rocks and charolite came up. This person hadn’t seen any of this mineral and they were very knowledgeable! So I was trying to describe it and they said they would Google it Fantastic idea! So they type in charolite and click on a page. Up popped all these one examples of charolite. And to dismay--- Guess what was there? My rock’n heart!! To be specific my purple heart crafted with a sugalite ½ and charolite ½. I had posted this heart over on a DesertUSA forum and Google linked it. I can’t seem to duplicate the search but heres the heart in question that popped up it was my 15 milliseconds of fame !

Yup, that's the internet. Once a pic is out there it's a free for all. Someone showed me one time where one of my poppy jasper pics was being offered as a screen saver or picture for a phones ringtone or some such stuff.....Mel

Google search, An i found the truth.
THE BEGINING OF THE INTERNET sent to me from a friend
An old bearded shephard with a crooked staff walked up to a stone pulpit and said, "And lo, it came to pass that a caravan trader by the name of Abraham Com did take unto himself a young wife by the name of Dot." Now Dot Com was a comely and strong woman, broad of shoulder and long of leg. Over time, she had come to be known as Amazon Dot Com.
One day she said to Abraham, her husband, "Why doth thou travel from town to town with thy goods when thou can trade without ever leaving thy tent?" And Abraham looked at her as though she were several saddle bags short of a camel load, but simply said, "How, Dear?" And Dot replied, "I will place drums in all the towns and drums in between to send messages saying what you have for sale. Those who meet your price can send gold, and you can deliver your goods by Uriah's Pony Stable (UPS). To buy, you can select the best price being offered." Abraham thought long and decided to let Dot have her way with the drums. And the drums thundered and were an immediate success.
Abraham traded without leaving his tent. But this success did arouse envy. And lo, the land was so feverish with joy at the new riches and the deafening sound of the drums, that no one noticed that the real riches were going to the drum maker, one Brother William of Gates, who had bought up every drum company in the land. And did indeed insist on making drums that would work only if you bought Brother Gates' drumsticks. So Dot did say, "Oh Abraham, what we have started is being taken over by others."
As Abraham pondered while looking out over the Bay of Ezekiel, or as it came to be known "eBay," he said, "We need a name that reflects what we are." And Dot replied, "Young Ambitious Hebrew Owner Operators." "Whoopee!" said Abraham. "No, YAHOO!" said Dot Com. And that is how it all began. It was not Al Gore after all.
Ok this is the lsat time i post it.............................

Thanks Todd ! You bring up an interesting point Cause I was telling this person how to spell this word Not exactly sure how the spelling ended up. Perhaps, that why I can't seem to duplicate the search ? but sometimes the wonder of the internet can be forgiving for misspelled/mispronounced words other times it can be a bare...

I think this writing from my favorite author is still relevant
Umberto Eco on Macintosh vs. DOS (or why Macs are Catholic)
The fact is that the world is divided between users of the Macintosh computer and users of MS-DOS compatible computers. I am firmly of the opinion that the Macintosh is Catholic and that DOS is Protestant. Indeed, the Macintosh is counterreformist and has been influenced by the "ratio studiorum" of the Jesuits. It is cheerful, friendly, conciliatory, it tells the faithful how they must proceed step by step to reach - if not the Kingdom of Heaven - the moment in which their document is printed. It is catechistic: the essence of revelation is dealt with via simple formulae and sumptuous icons. Everyone has a right to salvation.
DOS is Protestant, or even Calvinistic. It allows free interpretation of scripture, demands difficult personal decisions, imposes a subtle hermeneutics upon the user, and takes for granted the idea that not all can reach salvation. To make the system work you need to interpret the program yourself: a long way from the baroque community of revelers, the user is closed within the loneliness of his own inner torment.
You may object that, with the passage to Windows, the DOS universe has come to resemble more closely the counterreformist tolerance of the Macintosh. It's true: Windows represents an Anglican-style schism, big ceremonies in the cathedral, but there is always the possibility of a return to DOS to change things in accordance with bizarre decisions.....
And machine code, which lies beneath both systems (or environments, if you prefer)? Ah, that is to do with the Old Testament, and is Talmudic and cabalistic.
