Howdy folks. Had some interest in some more of that weird pseudomorph stuff I find on our hill so I picked up another batch to start in the tumbler. Not real colorful but it has interesting tornado patterns and takes a good polish. Here's a pic of a few minute's yield.....Mel

karock: I've cabbed it and it works up pretty well but to me, is not showy enough to justify the effort. More of a curiosity. Sliced one way it shows cool diamond patterns, another it has those little funnel type patterns like Mary Ellen Jasper. I have found one piece replaced by carnelian colored agate but it's too big for my saw....Mel

Ted, That was my first guess too as this is definitely reef country. The dark areas are definitely built up in layers but cut across the ends it does not have the concentric swirls of stromatolite but is sort of diamond shaped instead. Cut lengthwise it's either the funnel shapes , often in opposed directions like teeth but sometime unidirectional, or it's just parallel columns' It's definitely associated with pseudomorphs of some kind of coral as I have a death plate with a small coral head and gastropods both replaced by silica from the same hill. No polyp patterns in any of it, just the types of patterns shown in this stuff and some flower shaped formations in the coral like material. As I told you the other day. I waiver back and forth about it being a pseudomorph after some kind of organic creature or a pseudo after some kind of dolomite or calcite crystal structure. Don't know, it sure has me stumped and I've had experts ID it as all these things including cycadoids which I discount as these are all ocean stuff......Mel
