My hubby has been picking up rocks out of the yard, practicing his cutting and polishing... he brought these in for me to see I'm amazed! Thinking the red one is some kind of agate - have no idea what the grey one is, but it's pretty too

What a yard! It is especially impressive to someone who is surrounded by basalt. Susan

eh, we have LOTS of basalt around too... but our immediate area, yard included, is very sandy with smallish boulder/rocks .... this makes me want to take my shovel out there and start digging LOL

Wow, love that first one! I can see a smashing 4th of July pendant! Fantastic yard finds!
I can't tell from the picture but I've seen some beautiful red moss in clear/blue agate come from AZ.

Great finds! That red one is stunnig!
I'd love to live in an area surrounded by Basalt... Basalt can be prime agate hunting grounds. The agate forms in the pockets left behind in the cooling lava by escaping gases. One of the best places to find agates in Texas is out west where ancient volcanoes have left behind Baslat beds hundreds of feet thick!
Susan - Look around for some nodules and crack some open... you might be surprised!

They're agate, as you know, but I thought I had seen the red, white, and blue one with a specific name. Much as I hate dealing with club politics, this is probably a situation where you should creep down to the local club and see what locals have to say.

Great looking finds, Judy. Made even better by the fact that you didn't have to travel anywhere! Very cool! Paul

I find similar rocks here in WY but I end up throwing most of them out in the yard because there fractured so bad I can not use them. I am graveling my back driveway one stone at a time. Nice find.
