does anyone know where I can get parts for a Poly D14 arbor, I was given an arbor but it is missing one of the bearing caps.
I have looked online, but have so far not been able to find Poly.

Poly has been out of business for many years. Your best bet would be to remove the entire bearing, and take it to a machine shop that sells bearings. Your old bearings will have a number on them which they will use to find replacement parts. Try not to get a Chinese made bearing. They are inferior, and will not last long.

bearings are fine, Poly had an Aluminum Cover that prevented water and grit grom getting at the bearings, and that is what is missing.

Oops ! That part you may have a problem finding. Maybe one of our members has an old poly arbor for parts. If the bearings are the sealed type, you could probably get away without the cover.

most bearing suppliers also have caps seperate and with the bearing. Just take your old one in and ask. Experience shows if cap missing the bearing may feel good but when loaded it will fail soon. Cheaper in long run to just replace it and the cover. also take bolts as the bolt seat sometimes changes. :2cents:

Dicky, the cap he's talking about has nothing to do with the bearing itself. It's an aluminum cap that presses on the part of the arbor closest to the bearing, and covers the end of the aluminum stand holding the bearings. Basically what it does is to sling water and grit away from the bearing.

OM, correct me if I'm wrong. This is an arbor for a flat lap, but is basically the same as one side of your Poly arbor. I believe the part you need is the silver piece just below the washers in this pic. Don

It's similar, outside diameter is approx 2 3/4" face width is approx 1 7/8" and there is a set screw that holds it in place

If nothing else maybe you can make one. If you are mechanical enough to take a Poly apart I'm guessing you can make a cap. Maybe a tin cup, measuring cup, etc.

You can also contact John Rowland (makes the Chinese HP saws). He told me he was going to make Poly arbors. If so he would have the caps. He is here at the Austin show so I'll ask him tomorrow.

Hey John, find out what he's going to get for the Poly arbors. I sold 2 a few years back, complete with hoods and pans. I've been kicking myself ever since. Don

Will do. It was before he had the HP saws out that he told me he was going to do Poly's. He came out with the Rock's Bull wheels and he may be delayed but I'll talk to him. You see a lot of the old Poly Arbors in CA. They go pretty fast in good condition. I've seen bare arbors (no hoods, pans or motors) sell for $125-$150.

I asked John Rowland today. Sounds like a "I'd like to some day" situation. He is concentrating on the 14", 10" saws and a system for removing sludge from slab saws.

I use the tin Lortone hoods and pans. They work better for drums since they are wider than the stock hoods.

I'm looking for the hoods to a poly arbor D14. Can anyone help me? I really don't want to fabricate one. Thanks Connie, I've been looking for the same for months. Especially the wide hoods. I have three 8" and a 6" arbors. I have 3 narrow hoods, but only 1 wide hood for the 8" arbors, and no hoods for the 6" arbor. Someone had a pan on ebay the other day. I put a bid in, and the guy took the listing down. I didn't think ebay allowed them to do that after bidding started. Guess someone contacted the guy with an offer he couldn't refuse.

Another brand to watch for is Rocks lapidary out of Texas. The company is out of business, but used to make hoods and pans that were a perfect fit for Poly arbors. I believe there was another company who also made parts to fit the Poly arbors, But old age and that Old Timers stuff won't let me remember the name.

Might take the bearing housing to a good auto parts store and see if a core plug [freeze plug, soft plug, are other terms used] would fit up. Set screw and center hole would be pretty easy.
