My son and I have completed stage one of tumbling. We tumbled some local rocks we collected. We tried to divide them into a granite group and a quartz group, although I'm sure we weren't 100% accurate. They've been tumbling since Christmas, so almost a month. The rocks are nice and smooth now and are currently being washed in Ivory soap. Here's a link to some before and after pictures: gallery.me.com/abramr#100215&bgcolor=black&view=gridRob

Coming along nicely. The pictures do a good job of showing how much rock gets ground off during the first stage. Congrats on being patient and waiting so long to move on to the next step. Should go quicker now.

Nice first batch! You achieved some really nice rounding there and the colors really popped! I think you had better quality rocks to start with than I did, LOL! It'll be interesting to see how you come out!

Thanks Cathy. I don't know that I had better stuff to begin with, just quartz and granite picked up on beaches. We'll see how it turns out. I'm excited to try some agate, jasper and petrified wood that I traded for. We'll have to compare at the end.
