About a week ago I opened my 2 Lortone 6# barrels , combined the smooth ones plus some fill, moved all the little stuff to my 1.5# Lortone barrel and charged the second 6# barrel with new rock from wampidy and some from Ralph and Mary Ann, a well as a bunch of miscellaneous scrap. What was different was that I had only a partially-used slurry in both barrels. I've been opening them early to pull out any rocks that are close to done so I can finish then on my grinding wheel, prep for stages 2-4, that I do in the vibe. Mist everything went ok tonight, except when I put the 1.5 Lortone barrel on the tumbler, the rod stopped turning. Looks like I need a new belt. After I took the photos I added a bunch of the agate I collected last week locally to both large barrels, and poured all the small stuff from the little barrel back into the 6# barrels. Picture order is both barrels just opened, both large barrels with their contents cleaned and the small barrel I ended up pouring back into the larger barrels. Forgive typos, I shot, edited, uploaded the photos from my phone and typed this all in the phone touchscreen.

John, I like a wetter slurry. But that can be a definite personal preference. As long as they come out shiny when done, is truly what counts.

Good tip on grinding some that are not smooth or have protrusions. That would work for going back in a rotary too .
