Hi to all you tumblers, I do rock work but not tumbling. I bought an estate of a rock shop owner and got a bunch of tumbling stuff. There was a whole bunch of colored crushed glass. Different sizes and colors..also some round orange stuff that looks like garnets... It was obvious tumbling stuff by it,s location in the shop..is it worth keeping or is in dumpster material. I tried to research it, but could find nothing similar in Catalogs...thanks ,,,,cal.....

Some people use glass as filler. The round stuff could be Oregon sun stones.

Any little rocks can be tumbler material, and some one might buy it. There's plenty of people who enjoy tumbling not just for the product, but the tumbling itself... to see if they can make the 'perfect batch' . The only thing about tumbling is that you cannot mix different hardness materials together, but if you have a lot of the little orange stones you can tumble those. Are you sure you can't take pix? I'd love to see everything you have!!

Glass is very commonly tumbled and can have beautiful results. I've mixed it with obsidian with good results. Many people here have tumbled glass, and occasionally its offered for sale.
As for your little orange rocks, they could be anything, but I have a jar of little orange rocks from a trip to the Oregon coast--the locals called them beach agates.

I looked up Oregon sunstones... here's a mine that you can go dig from right now that has them, along with stories about it: www.highdesertgemsandminerals.com/html/spectrum_sunstone_mines.htmlMostly, am showing you because they have a photo of little orange sunstones like John was saying. You can check and see if your orange rough looks like the pix. Speaking of pix... look at the carved sunstone... omg.

I just remembered that this year a bunch of Sunstones were stolen from an Oregon miner, there's a huge stink about it, as there should be. So I did a bit of research on it, and found that what sets the stolen ones apart from other Oregon sunstones is that many of the stolen gemstones are unique GREEN and BLUE gem grade sunstones: www.facetersguild.com/2012/02/stolen-oregon-sunstones/Gems that look like THIS - these are the stolen gemstones' site : sunstonebutte.com/?page_id=8After seeing pix of your buy, in the buy/sell section, it is IMPOSSIBLE that you would have any of the stolen gemstones, due to the age of the shop you bought. Those sunstones were stolen this year. I looked into it because I got curious about what sunstones were, and didn't want to ever buy any sunstones because of the theft. After I looked into it, I realized just how common sunstones were, and how unique the stolen ones were too. Not much worry that every sunstone might be the stolen ones, those were VERY different from regular sunstones, if you look at the link. Just clarifying in case anyone wondered whether you had some of the stolen sunstone, not remotely likely. Of course, what you might have are not sunstones, but beach agates, as Susan said. It would be nice tho if they were sunstones!!

I found out what all the little gemstones are... Somebody who knew the gentleman who owned the shop stopped by. So I asked him. It turns out he used to make tables from slabs and he would mix these little gems with resin and fill in the ares between the slabs. There are all kinds of material in lots of colors. Puzzle solved....

Oh how neat!!! Are they transparent or solid? Cal, you must have some amazing rocks there, it's probably worth it to rent a Uhaul and get it all moved at once so you're not going nuts driving back and forth all the time.
