Fun trip report and some nice finds. I hope they tumble up for you. I generally go hounding alone as well. Make sure your cell phone batteries are charged and let someone know where you're going or where you are when you get there. Looking forward to your next adventure.

Thanks Carlos! I've got a bunch in the tumbler now -- check back in about 3 months, lol.
Yup, you seem to have the solo adventurer protocol down too. ;-)
Paul - My avatar pic was taken in the eastern sierras - that's one of lakes on the way up to Kearsarge Pass. What a great hike!

What are you doing home Susan? You're suppose to be out making more trip reports for us that are stuck home!

Hey, that was late last night! I went to Last Chance, and was using my remaining energy reserves to read RTH! ;-) I will work on a trip report tonight (Sunday night) probably -- today I have to go to a (omg yay SLAB SALE) and then Mother's Day Lunch with my mom (which we postponed to this weekend). Check out this rock I got for her from LCC: What do you think? Good garden rock? ;D (Edited to add pic)

I was wondering if that was up in the Sierras. Very cool. My Father and I used to go backpacking in the eastern Sierras but farther north (I'm originally from the Bay Area) between Yosemite and Mono Lake. Kings Canyon we never had a chance to try. Looks like it was an awesome time!
Looking forward to seeing your trip report from LCC! Andrew's been "hounding" me to get back to LCC when summer rolls in.

Hi Susan: Did I miss your LCC thread? I hope not ...
Hey Don! Maybe, not sure yet. Our plans are a bit up in the air this weekend. With the long weekend, we're sure to do something and (personally) I can't think of a better way to spend a long weekend but I'd like to do something that the wife would enjoy as well.
Thanks Paul

I'd love to track down some really nice brecciated jasper like that. Good work and nice report.

Hey John, get here by about 5pm tomorrow and we can go get some! ;-)
Paul, nope, I didn't do a report for LCC, too busy. Going out again any time soon?

If I didn't have to be back here by early Sunday I'd take that offer!

Yeah, that would be a pretty short trip . . . hounding by headlamp!

Sitting here trying not to scratch my latest batch of chigger bites and fire ant stings so I thought I'd check out this thread again. Lavic was always one of my absolute favorite spots to hunt agate and jasper and I never get tired of looking at California desert rock hunting pics.! Great looking yard boulder you found there! I'm also wondering if all the other older guy rockhounds are thinking like me, that there were sure no hot gal rockhounds to hunt with when we were young guys. Shoot fire, all my hounding buddies were a bunch of grungy beer drinking outdoorsman. And kinda funky after a couple of days on the Mojave too *L*.....Mel

Susan - yeah, I'm trying to plan something since the boys will both be out of school soon (end of this week) so only dear old Dad has to get up early in the mornings now...by himself . The boys really like the Yermo area, primarly because it's minimal hiking although Andrew has requested to go back to Last Chance Canyon. I'll post something if we head out. There's always a chance that the SoCal RTH'ers can meet up! Thanks Paul

Hi Mel! You'll be happy then, Larry talked me into doing a trip report on last weekend at Lavic. Stay tuned. I'm thinking of stealing that agate back from mom - Larry said he thought he saw a plume in it! I lived in Houston once (Loved it) but didn't love the fire ants or the chiggers I got once from . . . I forgot the name, that swampy place in east texas. I do miss Texas though!
Hi Paul! We should def try to organize a meetup, even if it's just breakfast! LCC is great, and a lot cooler than Yermo! Also I just went out to Lavic last sunday, and the sandy road is a lot better - I think your Pilot would make it fine now.

Love the reports and history lessons. Keep it up.
Mel. When my girlfriend and I got into the chiggers real bad when I was living in TX a friend told us to sit in a tub of water with a lot of Epsom salts and that probably kept us from going insane. She had over 100 from the waist down and I had about half that many. I don't think I have ever felt better in my life as I did when I sat down in that tub. The itching stopped almost instantly and not one of those critters survived. Best piece of advice I have ever received. Jim

Well, don't go to the beach and go in the ocean with chiggers on/in, I can tell you that much. They turned from itchy little spots into huge nasty looking welts!

Don't you kill chiggers by painting them with nail polish?? I never got chiggers (knock on wood!!), but I read that somewhere...
