Since it was fathers day my kids had to do what I wanted. I took them to flint ridge/ nethers farm to look for rocks. This is the only place near me to collect as far as I know. I will qualify this as neither my kids, wife, or I have ever actually gone rockhounding. I had no idea what to expect other than some older posts saying it was good. I was blown away. After parking 50 feet from the collecting area we were greeted with a huge amount of great looking flint on the ground. No digging or manual labor (which my family really appreciated). Just pick it up. My wife Jennifer/ flint all over the ground Further into the woods there were large pits full of every color size shape of flint I have ever seen. Some pics of the kids Me We didn't come across any snakes like you guys ot west, just this guy Here is some of our haul. I had to stop everyone from putting too much in the bucket as it would take years to tumble in my 3# tumblers Price was $5 for whole family and $0.50 per pound. We ended up with about 15#. wet I have tumbled some of the black stuff (I think it is nellie blue) before and it came out nice. Pic of an old tumble We met the owner of the farm who was a sweetie. Very nice. Great family fun. Great fathers day. I think we'll do it again sometime. Thanks for looking Bill

Nice rocks Bill. Glad you were able to make it! Wish I could say I ever got away from there with less than 80 - 100 pounds! If you go back, remember to pick up more and use it as trading material for other stuff. People on the coasts and in TX and NM/AZ don't have Flint Ridge flint and will trade their rocks for yours. Wow, that black stuff is beautiful! Flint is joining jasper as one of my favorites. It's not all about the agate!

That's so cool! I live in the Seattle area but every year we go visit my wife's family in Newark, OH and her uncle has a farm about 2 miles down the road from the park. I have driven by it a million times and never stopped in. I have picked up rocks at his farm and there is a ton of interesting stuff there!
